meh... I'll have a drink or two if I'm caging but never when I'm riding. I very rarely drink to excess and if I do its usually a party at my place!

    Re: Drinking & riding

I would say the same thing...(The poll is a little misleading) I won't get tanked and drive a car. My limit is 2 drinks and I will still drive. 3 and I hand off my keys.

Absolutely no alcohol (or other drugs ) on my bike.

    http://www.motorcycle.com/rider-safe...ing-88121.html

Some riders continue to think they can handle alcohol, as evidenced by bikers who ride to bars, and other phenomena in the American motorcycle scene. This is not exclusive to cruisers, or any particular lifestyle. Some sportbike riders, especially relatively younger ones, may hop on their crotch rocket after having a drink or two – or several.

Their decreased abilities, which they cannot adequately judge, combined with decreased sense of inhibition, may yield an increased sense of (false) confidence. While riders may typically try to be careful, anecdotal accounts of those who feel the thrill of ripping through several gears well over 100 mph while drunk are not unheard of.

My liver, like everyone else's, processes about 1 drink per hour, give or take depending on the variables. As long as I keep it around that then yes, I will drive or ride.... though I'm far more strict about it when I'm on the bike.

... and I'll drive/ride like a friggin old lady when I do. First thing to go is your judgment... right behind that is your vision & motor skills.

I certainly don't make a habit of it but sometimes I'll have a beer or two when out on the bike just being honest.

I've been to bars on the bike but would just have soda/water. My harley and squid friends bust my balls all the time about it..... you have to live with your choices.

So you are saying you will have a beer, finish it, wait an hour and then ride your bike?

What does the MSF say about riding and alcohol?

    Re: Drinking & riding

if we are being honest, I normally wont ride after any drinks, but I have ridden after one beer before, I mean really, you all shouldnt crucify a 200 lb guy for having one social beer, chilling for a bit, then riding. I respect those that do, and those that dont. I do NOT respect those that will drink more than one or two and ride/drive, that is bullsh1t.

I know, i know.... flame on.

ps. I am in waikiki at the moment and the sportbike scene here is incredible. HUGE roving groups on bikes. We need to step it up in the northeast...

    Re: Drinking & riding

The question no one has brought up is how 'bout riding hung over? Based on threads posted here it's obvious that some of you ride seriously impaired by a hang-over.

    Re: Drinking & riding

I have been known to ride after a beer, but I never have more than one, and it is always with food over a long span of time. I am less strict with myself in the car, but like Pete, I drive like a little old lady to try and make up for any slowed judgment I have.

I don't make a regular practice of either behavior, but honestly, I feel I can handle one drink over lunch and still ride safely. If I did not, then I would not. I often have a DD with me, so the car is rarely an issue, and I will most likely not drink and touch anything with a motor this year, as my tolerance is all weird now due to pregnancy/baby.

I don't do anything hungover. I have even taken the day off from cornerworking because I didn't think I would be at my best, and I didn't want my lag-time to affect someone's safety. Hell, I took a day off due to allergies last year...

I always got a kick out of NH's sign that says" NH is tough on Drunk Driving" then another sign down the road says " 5 miles to State Liquor Agency". The friggin package store is out on the limited access highway. All they need is a cup and ice dispenser with stirrers to complete the package.

Most I've ever had is 1 beer before driving, but never gotten on a bike. Anything over that, I won't even step foot inside the drivers side of the car, let alone get on the bike.

    Re: Drinking & riding

Yes, I will have beers and I will ride sometime after that. I will usually also be sitting down for a long meal, hanging out with friends, and/or watching movies for many hours in between the two tasks. I certainly wouldn't plant myself at a bar, booze up, and then get on the road.

Will I ride while impaired? No.

Can I even tell? Yes, I think so. I have a brain and I use it enough that I start to recognize when it stops working right.

Things I will do drunk: Walk. Get a car ride from a non drunk. Ride my bicycle.

How my impaired reflexes will most likely kill me: Getting run down by some fucking taxi driver while crossing the street in Central Square.

Also: I have some serious reservations about people saying "I would never ride after drinking, but I would drive my car." So you do not trust your judgment about being impaired on the road with a motorcycle and doing yourself in, but it might be acceptable to be rolling those dice in a cage and do somebody else in (quite likely a biker) while you are in nice cushy airbags?
