I've gotten a following to close ticket before so yes, it is against the law. The officer said you should be able to fit 2 full sized autos between you and the car in front of you at all times

just because there is potential for fatality, does not mean attempted murder. just because someone dies doesn't mean murder
(1) Except as provided in sec 210.3(1)(b), criminal homicide constitutes murder when:
(a) it is committed purposel or knowingly; or
(b) it is comiited recklessy under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life...
applying this law to the facts of the situation which that guy claims to have taken place, if someone were to die from a wreck that he was the proximate cuase of, then he would most liley to be found guilty of 1st degree murder.

i know someone that got stopped for following too close and busted for something else.
"fuckit!"
sounds very subjective to me, I'd be willing to bet that the 2 full sized auto's is not in the law, something the officer pulled out of his assOriginally posted by R7

IMHO anything closer than 2 seconds driving time at any given speed is too close, I've heard of it, but only in conjunction with a rear end accident

most places teach the 2 second rule, I never heard of 2 car lengths, that's only safe at speeds of 15mph or lessOriginally posted by MissTwisties

I took my driving course in Quebec, learning the 2 cars length....but when I took the MSF class here in MA, I learned the 2 second technique...I never really understood what the 2 second thing was....so I go with the 2 cars length, depending what speed I go, then I put a lot more space of course such as when I'm on the highway.Originally posted by RandyO

it's an easy concept, but often is explained in very vauge and abstract terms. I'll try my best to not confuse any further (see my picture)
____*________
___X________Y____
X= car / bike / etc in front of you.
*= any roadside object (tree, trash can, roadkill, etc)
Y = YOU!
(1) car X passes * on the road.
(3) start counting as soon as X passes *
(2) no matter WHAT speed you are going, you should be able to count two full seconds untill you pass that same object.
if the X is going 5mph, you can be very close to X, and still be able to count a full 2 seconds before you also pass *, becuase your speed is slow. If you are going 90mph, your going to much further apart from X in order to get your full 2 second count. this is good test to figure if your far enough behind the car / bike infront of you, becuase all you need to check it is any object (*) that you pick out on the side of the road, and your ablity to count to two (I know this part might be hard for some GSX riders).
does that make *any* sense? if not, try to get someone else to explain it to you, cuase I apprentlly did a bad job of it.

2 seconds is approximately 30 feet/10meters/yards for every 10mph you are going, at 100mph, the distance would be a football field

Thanks Chris...I think I got the concept...I'll make sure to try practicing it. Altho I have to admit...I'll never leave a football field space between myself and another car of the highway???? Wowe...lol (seems pretty big distance)

Oh and...do you start counting 0....1.....2 OR 1.....2....(sorry if this sounds like a stupid question?? But "1...2" sounds pretty short to count?)

just 1...2... but make sure it's a full two seconds. it is short to count, but it is realative to the speed you are going. try it and lemme know what you think...Originally posted by MissTwisties

generally i give it a "zero... one.... two".. when i think "two" i should be arriving at whatever telephone poll or whatever it is that they were at when i thought "zero"
or you can think "one" when they get to whatever the stationary object is & think "one... two.... now"... either way it's two seconds.

or one thousand one, one thousand two
It is a good rule that I learned for the first time last year
at my MSF class. I was almost positive that I would have
very little to learn from those guys ...
At least now I have a pretty good idea how ignorant I am!
I practice it with my car all the time now and when some a-hole
comes up on my butt, I just move aside let him pass and keep
practicing.
I dunno bout anyone else here but ever since I been riding my
bike, I don't listen to the radio anymore. Anyone else like that?

I dunno, sometimes after I get home from a ride I'll turn the radio in living room on to listen to a game or something![]()

well i have a shit box and some gas is saved doing 60 vs 70 and over.
"fuckit!"
I get you on the gas thing....I usually go about 80miles/hour on the highway (120 km/h to 130km/h, "sometimes" up to 140 on my way to Quebec on deserted highway in VT) but last weekend, the road conditions were BAD....I did the trip to Quebec back and forth in one day, both ways it was snowing and visibility was real bad. Only 2 small tracks to follow with your tires....I was going about 80km/hour (not sure how much it is in miles?) sometimes even slower, and I remember on my way back I didn't even use half a tank of gas!! It would usually take a full tank of gas to do the trip one way....going slow surely save a LOT on gas, but it makes for a damn long boring trip, so I'd rather spend a few more dollars and get home quicker.Originally posted by Kham

Hmm To tell you the truth ,sometimes bikers are assholes (not all of them, but there are definitely some)... especially the ones that pass on the right/slow lane, I remember me and my friend was driving to NYC once and we were switching to the right lane to get off at our exit and this CBR passed us on the right at like 120 mph, We coulda knocked the kid out if we didn't hear his exhaust zooming up cause we didn't see him at all.
I think its just a few people that make the rest of us look bad ...

if you attempt to ram someone with your car..or knowingly cut off the lane of travel with the intent of causing harm or death to someone it is atleast assault with a deadly weapon...maybe not attempted murder unless you ram them with your car....
I think reckless endangerment or driving to endanger would fit the charge more ... they can charge with that for just going a little bit over the speed limit ... I've had experience before, don't ask how![]()
Cheese is good
being charged with both of those i disagree..lol those are for just driving like a moron.....like i dont know... 100 in a 35 crashing though a telephone pole bouncing off a tree and flipping ove 5-6 timesOriginally posted by coolriderdude
