I just knew it! All, we have Confucius here - we must respect his words of wisdom!

my thoughts exactly (yes, i know that reply was to the loud exhaust & earplugs comment... but it's just too perfect )

I wear your average foamies on almost every ride. Like what has been said, they mostly filter out white noise, like wind & higher frequency engine noise. Even at "less than legal" speeds i can hear my engine as long as the throttle isn't completely closed. if i start to roll on it just the slightest bit i can hear it & can tell my approximate RPM's by the tone of the engine.

and this is with a STOCK exhaust.

BTW, i have a Shoei RF1000. probably isn't the most quietest Shoei out there, it's kinda noisy, but i love it to death.

Come on Kham, you get the aftermarket pipe cause you're a stupid fast rider and you need the extra 2hp to beat your rivals at the track or something like that. Or you want to get attention from people on the side of the road, etc...

You will still be able to hear the change in tone between different pipes with the earplugs in anyway.

I'll eventually give in and get pipes for my bike... not cause I want it to be louder but because I want the tone of the engine sound to be deeper.

I use them unless I am just riding around town. Yes you tend to be at higher RPM's, but thats not a big deal, I think after a few times using them you get used to it right fast.
