What is that widget on the top of the cylinder head?
Oil line running from one camshaft/rocker shaft to the other?
What is it's purpose?
Should I get one?
On that engine family, there was supposedly a top end oiling problem on some of them, if they were modded with high lift cams/springs. The line on that bike, by itself, doesn't make any sense. The two bolts that were there before, are just access bolts for the rocker shafts. There is no pressurized oil at those points, and the line that is there, connects to each other. ??? In the kits I've seen there has to be a supply line from the external oil lines that connect to the head. Those lines supply low pressure, high volume oil, for the oil cooling portion of the head. Tapping into those lines would just give a bit more splash lube to the cams. I have high lift cams/springs in my old girl, and I don't run those extra lines. I did have an intake cam issue, but it was more related to the surface hardening of the cam lobes being defective. I went to a hard welded/reground cam/rocker arm set up instead. Hope this FYI helps.
This not directly a cooling issue. It could pop up on a liquid cooled engine, IF, the engineering team was caught napping a bit.
Thanks.
