Shoot, I thought riding was on the track was like skiing/snowboarding/mountain biking. If you're not crashing you're not trying hard enough!![]()

Nah, don't remember him.... it's those types that I usually forget about as their skills are typically less than impressive.
The riders that impress me are the ones that are loose, fluid and can find a rhythm... It's all about being smooth, consistent and controlled.

^ what he said.
To quote either Tony or Ken (hell its one of the TTD guys) "Go slow to go faster". Nothing to prove to anyone at a TD. Drag a knee? cool, if not.....who cares?
And Jackie, Jane is right about your "baby" being safer on the track than the street. Its hard to explain the feeling but you won't know until you have experienced a TD. Hell I feel more "uneasy" on the streets than I do at the track. And dammit if i can put my new bike on the track then you can do the same (goes for anyone thinking about not hurting their "baby" at the track).

first, who cares if anyone else is around or not? You crash and they have to roll the ambulance you are wasting everyone else's money. That is what would piss me off the most.
second, I'm sure your ego will get put in check pretty quick if its your first time on the track
third, if the track doesn't check your ego, I'm sure tony will.

There's an unmatched freedom on a track that simply can't be described in words...it has to be experienced for one to fully understand.
Imagine a road that is free of 18-wheelers, SUV's or blue hairs trying to talk on their cell.
Imagine a road where the only stop light is at the end of a 20 minute session where you've been riding your ass off all the while exploring and pushing your own personal envelope at your own pace.
Put yourself in a place where there are no tickets for speeding, or misuse of power...there are no speed traps or angry drivers trying to take you out because they feel you are in their way.
There's no sand or dirt or pebbles....no roadkill to avoid.
Your concentration is atuned to one thing only--> the next turn.
There are no distractions on the track and everyone is traveling in the same direction.
I have to ask, what's not to like about any of that?
I've heard all that before, but I would feel more comfortable on a bike that I don't mind laying down. Its not an excuse. I couldn't do track days even if I wanted to this year, since I had surgery in January and used all of my sick and vacation time.
Trust me, no one wants to get me out on the track more than I do, I'm just saying that since I have to wait until the spring anyway, I'm hoping to pick up a track bike by then. If not, I'll be taping the SHIT out of my bike and riding it.

The "laying the nice bike" down argument is not a good one, because you take the chance of laying your bike down more on the street due to all of the obstacles that you face or that face you.
Not knocking you on this one, Jackie, just the "won't bring the nice bike to the track" argument that I've been using since I heard about track days.
You're not the first to say these exact words.
Seems to be a recurring statement with pre-trackday riders...![]()
Not doggin' on you....it's just a fact that this has been said many times before.
Make the choice in advance. Afterall, it's you who decides if the bike's going down or not.
FWIW; When I had the 929 at VIR, my first lap on my first track day (which was in the wet) I had an almost incident......one that I created by making a choice. I more or less chose to have a near highside when I stepped the rear out. I woulda been fine had I not rolled on the gas "just to see what would happen". See where I'm going with this?
Origin- Hook, line and sinker. Even I can't believe how easy that was...
EDIT: Chuckles said it already when I was typing.
track is bumpy and when i rain it pour (slick). it sucks cause i cant... hate to say it. no speed limit and no traffic helps.
"fuckit!"
For fuck sake... I said I'd be doing track days one way or another, so what does it matter whether I buy a track bike or not? I'm fairly certain that most people who can afford to do so would like to have a track bike and a street bike.
My mom happens to live 10 minutes from the track and just built a monstrous garage, so I could keep a track bike there and not have to worry about trailering it up every weekend... it just makes more sense for me to own 2 bikes. BUT... like I said, if that doesn't work out for whatever reason, the big green booger will be out on the track, covered in duct tape.

jackie i'll track with you.
"fuckit!"
I am taking the 998 on the next trackday....
If I can put MY baby on the track so can you.
(You would most likely be amazed at the amount of sweet EXPENSIVE bikes at a trackday)
