ANyone have experience with manual cam chain tensioners?? I am getting close to having my bike back together and installing one but am staying on the side of caution. I am pretty mechanically inclined but when it comes to the motor dont want to take any chances.
the bike is a 2003 kawasaki zx6r with around 12,000 miles on it. I am located in norwood
thanks in advance for any help
What's your question or hesitation about it? They're very easy to install and adjust.
+1. Just put it on, tighten by hand until you feel a decent amount of resistance, and then back off a 1/4 turn. Tighten the jam nut and start the bike to see if it's super noisy. If it's clattering like hell, turn the bike off and tighten further 1/4 turn at a time. If there's just a bit of noise, then loosen the jam nut and SLOWLY adjust/tighten until it's almost silent. Then backoff 1/4 turn and tighten. Everyone makes it out like this is a delicate and precise bit of wrenching, but it's just like any other bolt on. The adjustment range has a bit of +/- that you'll be OK with, unless you pull the covers, go TDC, and do it by the book. It's a "feel" thing otherwise.
perfect, all i needed to hear. Just wasnt sure of a good baseline to start by as far as how far to turn it in.
thanks guys
