If I can supply the critical dimensions, anyone up for whittling me out a brake caliper adapter bracket?
My 92 WR is one of the 4 years that Yamaha used an oddball two piston front caliper, an older design Nissin. Earlier and later bikes use the same unit as Honda's MX lineup. My caliper has seen far better days, so I figured I'd do the Honda upgrade all the other YZ/WR guys do, Honda caliper on a YZ bracket, Honda master and line.
Well... I can't swap brackets because my caliper uses a different pad retention system. Unlike later Yams my forks DO use the same bolt spacing as the Honda bracket. Unfortunately they don't match the placement relative to the fork. The upper mount is spot on, the lower mount is a good 30mm inwards. To use the caliper and bracket, I need to move that lower mount out.
I'm thinking a simple steel 'Z' shaped piece will do the trick. One side drilled and tapped to accept the standard mount point/bolt, the other side drilled but not tapped, a new short bolt through it into the caliper bracket and I'm golden.
Hell, it can be a single lump of steel with a notch milled out to go over both ends of the stock mount so it's double hung, and then a light notch on the wheel facing end to set the depth for the second hole.
In the mean time I'm going to resume attempting to coax the pad pins free on my old caliper so I can tear it down and clean it, it drags too much for my taste. That plus the new line and master should improve it's performance but I'd still like to chase using a newer caliper if I can.

You can download their software build your part to spec and have them whip you up one. It's not cheap though. At least for one off pieces..
if you make something like thisout of 7075 aluminum to make up the difference in that bracket connection it'll cost 400$ from emachine shop for a one off part.
Yeah, which is why I'd prefer something other than them for a one off. eMachineshop is fun to play with but man that is some expensive prototyping. I'm really curious how many people actually use their service, and what they are making for parts.
Plan B it is then, find a piece of steel and have at it with a grinder...![]()
