    I also checked 1st gen ZX-6R's...how are clapped out versions of these still so expensive?
    I was asking 1600? I think for mine with a full set of track plastics fox twin clicker and a bunch of other goodies. Also for the record the first gen zx6rs are friggin tanks. The motors just don't seem to die unless you do something dumb. If you come across one for a good price, buy it. You will not be dissapointed.

    I don't think you people know what a first gen zx6r is. first gen was 85-86. I had an 86, good beginner bike but backwards step from the fzr I think.

    huh??

    wasn't that a Ninja 600R frm 86-97???

    and coincidentally, I used to have one of those...the FZR is definitely a step up!

    then came the ZX-6...then the ZX-6R wasn't until the mid 90's?

    I remember my title saying it was a ZX6R-A2. A1 being an 85. fairing did say 600R. before that they were GPZ550

    No. That's a Ninja 600R. NOT A ZX6R.

    Your title is wrong. That is a run of the mill ZX600A2. I had a few of these and all my titles said ZX600A*. They were badged GPZ600Rs in the ROW. Very very different from the ZX6-R which started in 1995. The ZX6-R was preceded by the ZX6-d and E models, respectively.

    this

    and yes, very different from the ZX6R

    I'm going to keep looking for FZR600's...just gotta find a low mileage one without any lower fairings and wheels that aren't purple...offer them $700, then I'll just swap all my yellow plastics, tell the DMV about the color change, and turn in my old bike to a junkyard

    you never did mention what's wrong with your current fzr. why do you think its gonna blow the motor?

    up to about 50,000+ miles...and all I did was oil changes and one air filter change

    when people say, "any bike will last with proper preventative maintenance", well I never did any of it! So I figure it's any day now...

    plus the bike also randomly puts out a *wee* bit of white smoke on cold startup...but not always...and you have to be staring at the exhaust to see it...and it's been doing this since 25k miles...so I'm guessing there's a coolant leak somewhere, and it's slowly damaging the engine

    and despite having enough oil, I saw the oil light come on twice (for about 10 seconds) in the last month. Before that, it's never turned on.

    Re: fzr600 -> ?

    not as much anymore...

    my last 2 chains kept requiring a re-tightening every 2 days...I posted a thread somewhere on here and it was concluded that over-lubing and excessive tightening are the fastest ways to chain stretching (& maybe it was a ragged out suspension)...now I only lube it if the chain gets really creaky (once every 3-4 weeks)...and I'm going to only tighten it once every couple months or so

    but otherwise, yes I did chain & tires...

    the "any bike will last..." really just referred to engine maintenance

    Re: fzr600 -> ?

    I absolutely loved my FZR. I ended up selling it for $2500. The bike had the 2nd gear issue when I bought it, so you couldn't wind the power on because it would pop out of gear. I bought a gear stack off e-bay and sent it out to get undercut. The bottom end was in great shape, along with the cyliders and pistons. I had the head surfaced, lapped and shimmed the valves, and installed new valve seals and gaskets all around. She ran like a swiss watch. The bike had around 30K miles and the internals were all in excellent shape. It wasn't too much money, just an investment in time.

    Wow that is one clean FZR. $2500 is a nice sale. I'm asking a lot less for mine and all I'm getting are trade offers for beat up dirt bikes and quads, and my bike is in good shape (albeit not as nice as yours was).

    That's the problem with craigslist and older bikes that are affordable. 'Wanna trade for a broken ps2 and an old RC car that stopped working?'

    yup...

    then there's $1,300 for this POS

    on the flip side, while nastynotch has a good bike not getting any good offers on his clean, FULL FAIRING bike, there are shitty bikes out there that people are asking too much!!

    Over lubing your engine is a good way to wear it out too soon also.

    Really? Over lubing?

    Too tight, definitely, but too lubed? Nah boo boo.

    it was somewhere else...I swear

    and I never clean my chain anymore...all I do is lube it...still stretches 2-3 days after adjustment and goes floppy loose

    First gen ZX6R for a G note. Not bad. If it was OE colors I'd scoop it.

    Yeah, a guy on Craigslist offered me a '93 F250 that doesn't run and is in pieces. No, I don't want your piece of shit project that you gave up on because it's a piece of shit. I want to trade my bike for green pictures of dead presidents.
