I have been riding motorcycles for nearly fifty years, pretty much what ever I have wanted to ride trying all sorts of motorcycle styles out for size; standards, sport, dual sport, sport touring, touring, off road... done it all.
For over thirty of those years my life partner for nearly forty years has been a my travelling companion. She did not always voice her opinion regarding the style of m/c I choose to ride, she just got on a rode with me... well, she has not always been comfortable on some of the machines that we have toured on so yesterday we did something about that...
...
This is Sue’s new sled... 2013 HD Electra Glide
You see, this is about riding for me, I have ridden Guzzis, Hondas, Yamahas, Triumphs, all kinda stuff and I like them all. This is about touring with comfort. This motorcycle is instantly familiar in the handling, power delivery, just awesome and the fact that the HD is very comfy for Sue, that is a huge win.
Ride 'em.

Congrats. My father has an older EG that I borrow a few times a year. I wasn't expecting to like it (I have only owned sport and mx bikes for 25 years) but I loved it. It couldn't be my only bike but I would love to own a newer one, someday..
Enjoy it!
I've ridden some shitty, fairly new Harleys and hated 'em. But I recently got a chance to cruise around on wunna their newer something-or-others (not a 'Glide) and I actually enjoyed it. I shit you not. Nor will I likely admit that EVER again...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
BTW, you should post that SV you have for sale over on the MGNOC mailing list here, and the Honda. My Dad forwarded it to me but you'd get more views here than a Guzzi mailing list, that's for sure.

Clayton,
I don't have an SV for sale... ? ? ? Or a Honda... I'm sending the '99 to San Diego for my daily commuter... Keeping the Transalp and Hawk GT.
I was going to ask "Who's your Dad...?" but... ah, no. LOL What is your Dad's name on the Guzzi list...?
Best,
Rob
P.S. I may sell the SV out in Califonia in a couple of years though...

Ah, my bad. Guy was selling a '99 SV and a CB1, not a Hawk GT.
Not sure what his name is on there, but he is Gary with a V10 Centuaro.

Funny enough I have a similar story and went the same route to make my Wife comfy. I got a new multistrada and she hated it. So I sold my Ape and bought this. And I'm the last guy to ever think I would own a Harley. But it pretty descent and the Wife loves it. It's a 13 road glide ultra.
Congratulations to you and your Wife.
I'll say it over and over again: I'm not quite ready for a Harley touring machine yet.. but I completely understand.
Damned nice bike. Guy @ work picked up a new Road King not long ago. He says he can't stop riding it.
The Electra Glide is awesome. Congrats!!
I wasn't really trying it out, it just happened by chance that I got an opp. to take one for a quick ride. I wanna say it was a Dyna-something - fairly low seat height and actually kinda compact by Harley standards. I was VERY surprised at how much fun it was. But I'm listening...what would you suggest?

Dynas.. I thought we were talking about the FL touring framed bikes here. Ie the ones without the shitty ergonomics.
Thanks all, we are diggin' the FLH...
We toured the Maritimes two years ago on the 1200 GT Guzzi and went with four other couples riding Gold Wings 1800's and they are very impressive, handle well, obviously comfortable and all that...
This HD though just makes that sound, handles surprisingly well. I like it..

If sound were one of my high criteria, my decisions might have been different. The HDs do sound great.
I have one bike that sounds like a sewing machine, another that makes a loud, but Gawd awful noise. Obviously lower on my list of buying criteria.
Congrats on the new ride!
