I take a straight coat hanger (or thin screwdriver) and carefully work it around the inside of the grip (between the grip and the tube) to "break" all of the glue up. Then I used compressed air to inflate the grip and pull it off.
soapy water and a skinny screw driver pushed under the grip and then the push the screwdriver around the the tube then spray soapy water under for easy slip off, five minute job. Clean tube and push on with special grip glue (removable again later). guess air would work as well as above

WD40 is a solvent. Try it on your old grip, Spray it, let it dry and see how it feels (on the outside)
I always safety wire my grips too. Just in case, plus it looks cool.![]()

Didnt the throttle tube come with a grip on it?

well i got gel grips put on not too long ago. but it would be one stock yamaha grip on a gsxr. not the best looking.
guess i will try and hit up the local shop see what they got for glue.
How do you safety wire it? any pics?

There are usually grooves for safety wire.

I usually end up putting a little bit of oil on a long skinny Phillips screwdriver, inserting it into the end of the bar/grip, then "walking" the screwdriver around the diameter of the grip while spinning the screwdriver. The grip will then pull right off. Wash the throttle tube and bar end down with brake cleaner before re-installing the new grips. For this I have used clear spray paint (works well), WD-40 (grips can eventually come loose), Crazy Glue (works well, but it is easy to miss spots and you will have a loose area), and Grip Glue (best - no substitute really).
On some bikes the grips are glued on from the factory and it is almost impossible to get them off without cutting them off with a razor blade, and even then there will be a mess to clean up.
I use primer. The cheapest kind you can find. Cut the old ones off. Spray the primer around inside and get it nice and gooey. Slide it on. Let dry and you'll never have a problem. Only thing is to make sure you cover the bike with some rags in the event some primer oozes out.
I learned this trick from and old time hare scrambles guy. Nothing worse than a wet loose grip.

so i got my R1 throttle tube put on. and use hair spray with a very tiny bit of grip glue for the grips.... i have to say that grip glue is by far the biggest biggest PITA ever. it started to dry before i could fully get the grips on...
but with the hair spray, some one said that moisture can loosen up the grips... does humidity count? any one have any issues with humidity?
