I'm FAR from being racist, but you know what? I'm also not going to stop and say hello to a group of thug-looking teens in a neighborhood well known for gang violence.
That's just plain stupid.

Well it's actually spelled "Puerto Rico" (and i'm gonna be there in a week!Originally posted by MissTwisties
I have one question...and really not trying to upset anyone. But what's wrong with the word portorican? It's people coming from Porto Rico? Like I come from Canada, and people will call me Canadian...or "quebecer" to be more precise in my case.
) - and "portorican" is supposedly a derogatory term when it's spelled that way, as far as i know....
sorry....didn't know....puerto rican...I'll try to remember next time, but can't promise, I'm so used to write it this way, it's only a typo from my part really, not meaning to be "derogatory" (searched in my dic. for that word...) lol![]()
So what about people who only use the word "rican", is it also suppose to be dera...derogatory? (having a hard time with that word!)

and... calling any Latin American (Columbian, Dominican, Mexican, Venezuelan, Argentinian, Cuban, etc, etc) OTHER THAN a Puerto Rican a "rican" or a "Puerto Rican" can also be considered a slap... since there is a certain amount of ethnic pride amongst the different Latin American nationalities, they don't all like to be lumped together. to quite a few of the Latinos / Latinas I've known, they figger us whiteys only know Puerto Rican or Mexican... depending on what part of the country we're from...![]()

I think my point got lost hear....I don't think(from what I have seen) that either you or Kham is racist. but when you label a race with a certain behavoir that is wrong.
i.e. in this post...there is a lot of talk about Puetro Ricans and "them" causing trouble.
My point is that it may very well be that the majority of the Puetro Rican population in the AREA are trouble makers but that doesn't mean that all Puerto Ricans are.... So to me that AREA sounds like a dangerous area not because there are Puerto Ricans there but because the area of town is dangerous...am I making any sense?
I mean if I am walking down the street and I see a bunch of white skater punks that appear that they are causeing trouble or whatever, I will more likely then not cross the street to try and aviod them. Do I beleive that al white kids that skate board are punk...no.
See what I'm sayin?
well that makes perfect sense to me and for that![]()

Ok, I see see your point...!
However, although it is wrong (not your point), there are certain stereotypes, that in all due honesty, have held true, in general, for people
of certain races/religious beliefs... And that's about as far as I'm going to go with that.Again, there is a reason a stereotype is a stereotype.

Why do Puetro Ricans smell like an Italian sub?Originally posted by Mystery Squid
Considering the area you were describing, I wouldn't use "rican" either... Just stick to "Puerto Rican" and you'll be o.k.....
Actually, good thing you're squaring this away NOW, before you inadvertently say something like "porotorican" or "rican" at the wrong place at the wrong time...

I got it started last night after working on it for two days. Last night I retaped the block since the threads were stripped for the spark plugs. Put new wires, selnoid, plugs, gas, and rewried the igination and she started right up. My best house purchase so far. Paid $200 at the bedford dump for the tractor and spent another $100 or parts and the tools to retap the block.
What do you think about this sweaper to clean up after stonerstock?
