Anyone ever use 'em? Seems like you have to be real careful cleaning it off as not to remove the finish. Any tips?![]()

I have one but have only used it once or twice. Very easy to chip the coating on it! I'd prefer just to wear sunglasses under my shield, that way on a hot day I can flip open the visor and not worry about shit hitting my eyes.
I have one on my Arai.
I just clean it like normal. I read that stuff about them 'wearing the coating off' but *shrug* whatever. Seems fine. I use my helmet bag (inside liner) if I can, if not I try using a tissue. Try to stay away from 'rougher' clothes.

My Suomy came with an "Opalescent Iridium finish" shield (quote from the suomy.com site)
I just wash it with regular glass cleaner, and if I'm on the road, I will use the gas station windshield wash and a paper towel. It is a very delicate finish though. Before wiping the screen, you need to make sure that there is no grit on the screen or the paper towel that you are going to use to clean it. Otherwise you will have surface scratches in the finish.
Its a great shield though, I must say.![]()
I've bought a few of them from arai and they always wear off in about six months no matter how carefull I am about cleaning them. Some have told me that constantly putting a coating of that anti fog wax helps. Since the sheilds cost more than my HJC helmet and tinted shield combined I decided to stop getting raped. Everytime they wear away and I call arai they tell me, 'those are the old ones, the new ones don't fade'. Then I buy a 'new one' and it does the same thing.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
I have had one for my Shoei for years. It is scratched up somewhat because the shield is more sensitive, but over all it has not faded and works well!
I clean mine with either plain water or the 50/50 mix windex & Water with a soft old t-Shirt.
I use my dark shiled more now becuase I think it acually blocks more... I have the dark smoke shield! 1/2 the price and more effective in the sun! Oh except the defference also I have with the dark shield is I have a 3/4 inch decal from parts411 that completely block the sun like a visor! Works the balls dude!

Another option is , as Mike said , a clear shield with the ' Sunblocker ' strip and a good pair of sunglasses for riding during the day or with the shield open , then take the sunglasses of when it gets dark .
My Iridium windscreen shows the finish wearing off like a few people said about their visors...![]()

I have one on my HJC for a year now. I clean it daily with a paper towel and windex and it still looks great.

I've had an Iridium shield on my Shoei since I bought my RF700 about 8 years back...Yes I know I need a new helmet...It's not that scratched at all after all those years...Still very clear, it hasn't lost it's Iriduimness (if that's a word)...I wash it with a papertowel and water...I'd buy another one in a second! Great for sunny riding, and not too dark for night riding...

you really shouldn't use paper towels to clean your shields or glasses.
the paper fibers can be abrasive and cause the scratches.
i use an old t-shirt or specific lens cleaning cloth.

I have one on my HJC, it sucks. They scratch really easily, and if it rains you are fucked! You can't see shit out of them once you try to wipe some water away. I experienced this in 600 miles of rain this weekend.

if you just want it for a darker tint then forget it. the Dark Smoke is actually a slight bit darker then the iridium. if you want looks then its just a matter of taking care of it

this is right: "you really shouldn't use paper towels to clean your shields or glasses. the paper fibers can be abrasive and cause the scratches."
flush the grit and dirt off with water then dry with a clean, dry SOFT cloth. a light wax will make it clean easier and is a little more resistant to collecting grime in the first place. after two years one of my shield looks new save the scratches on the sides caused by the hinge and seals which are well out of the viewing area.
I paid $62 fer the shield. Geez, where were you buying your shields?Originally posted by hessogood

I know everyone want's to put their 2¢ in but I am reading post that vary too much
SVixxer, you report that you clean yours daily with no proplems..
I wonder, do you ride daily? is your truck your daily beater and you wear your helmet?
Any how, I guess I'd like to see a qualifies report from someone that rides a lot and in a lot of varied conditions,
I have to clean my shield several times daily sometimes, how do bug splats affect the shield, or riding on roads witha lot of trucking (sand blast)
I wouldn't use a paper towel on ANY shield, only microfibre towels

I've used the papertowel for 9 years, with no problems to my shield. I use tap water to wet the papertowel, wash the shield, and dry with another papertowel...It looks just like day one...I only use Bounty because it's the quicker picker upper...

The coating fades no matter what. Just from you lifting the sheild up and down you will notice it will start to fade. It's junk.
