Got my HIDs installed...what a difference!

It's got a nice clean cut-off for a non-projector retrofit. I can't wait to try it out on the road. Just need to tidy up the wires and put the fairings back on.

I didn't mess with the exposure but the camera might have done it itself since it was on auto. The last two pics were also taken with the garage lights off.

It cost me $190 (normally costs $225) since I got it on a group buy. I made a post about the group buy a while back.

Install was really easy. It's plug and play but since I wanted to mount the ballast in the trunk, I had to extend one wire.

As for the oil, that's not a problem anymore....

I'm gonna stop being a wuss and get the kit. I've seen how the R1 projectors with hid kits and I love the light output. Do your hids flicker when you use your highbeams or during start-up?

My high beam is still the stock halogen. That way I can still use the Pass button and flash my high beam. My bike would require a second kit to do the high beam or I guess you could buy a car kit with the right bulbs. I have heard that it is not good to turn hids on and off quickly. It shortens the life of the bulb or something. To be honest, the low beam throws out so much light I'll prob never use the high beam except for maybe highway off ramps and such.

They flicker very momentarily. They start off as a dark bluish color and then slowly turn bright white over the course of 15 or so seconds. You can get the 6k bulbs for more of a blue color but the 4300k put out the most useable light. Maybe I can make a video of them turning on.

John, yup that was a Plymouth Laser aka Mitsu Eclipse or Eagle Talon. '92 with 205k miles. I can't believe the dealer actually took it as a trade-in......the things that were broken on that car....

Yeah its not good to turn off and on hid, because the bulb life gets shortened. Anyways hids as high beams are overkill and unnecessary.

I think I am going to get 6k as a happy medium between functionality and looks. And I love watching hids charge up when they turn on, especially during winter nights.

You guys w/ the HIDs - they really seem to work well in composite housings? I've read (yay for the internet...) that the reflector design for standard bulbs is very different than for HID bulbs. Putting HID into a lens it wasn't designed for supposively can yeild poor results, ranging from bright middle & poor peripheral light all the way to blinding oncoming.

Please keep updates on results...I'd love to do the mod if the lighting is that much better and has no cons.

+1 on the switching on/off. I hear that most will make light manually operated (on/off) and direct from battery (relayed so it will only work while key in ignition).

I've had my HID's in my bike (exact same kit as Punjisticks) for about a month and a half.

Yes you are correct about most HIDS have poor light distribution in a stock Halogen lens. For some odd reason these HIDS don't have any cons from what I've experienced. It's bright, distributed evently, and peripheral lighthing is good.

In the month and a half that I've had them in, I have not gotten a single "high beam flash" from oncoming traffic. I'm making the assumption that since I havent gotten a flash from anyone yet, it means it's not blinding oncoming traffic.

I got mine from XenonDepot. They claim the bulb is laser calibrated specifically for a reflector housing so you get a good beam pattern and don't blind people. I don't know if it's just sales propaganda or what, but as Billy has said I haven't been flashed by any other drivers yet and you can see the nice clean cut-off the pictures I posted.

"Laser calibrated" sounds like marketing speak to me but I do admit it sounds better than "manufactured to engineering's specified tolerances."
