My children? Or the children of the smug, texting asshat who blocks me because splitting "isn't fair!"?
Down here in Texas, when two lanes merge into one, people over enthusiastically pull over to the remaining lane about a mile ahead of the actual merge. AND many of them deliberately drive between the two lanes slowly, blocking you if you try to still stay on the open lane, since it's open for another 3 quarters of a mile.
Similar to blocking lane splitting, people in general seem to get petty really easy when driving.

That's actually becoming fairly common here. I have no shame and will gladly use half the shoulder to go around such asshattery.
Conversely there are people that make lanes. I work near part of I93 where the break-down lane is legal for use during commute hours. The ramp I use to get onto 93 is two lanes at the top. At some point I believe it knocks down to 1 lane, but as is typical for Mass highway the markings are long gone, so who knows where. People will drive 2 wheels up over the curb to get around you making the ramp 2-lanes the whole way. At the bottom it's a full on free-for-all with traffic from 93 in the break-down lane and two columns merging in from the ramp. Total chaos. With the 'strom I was somewhat adept at plowing through, pseudo splitting. The Harley is more of a handful. Doubly so as the pavement is total shit right there.
It's mayhem. Clearly rules are bent.
Right there I wish I were on an ADV'er again. Something more nimble, more upright and with more suspension. A few miles later we're doing 80 with the cruise set, feet on the highway pegs and the Hardly-ableson shines.
Sometimes the right weapon for one instance is all wrong for the next.
Husqvarna 701 Enduro or SM (KTM 690 Enduro or SM) would be an option but as others have mentioned they are a big singles. Similar riding position to Hyper but Hyper has more streetable motor. Yamaha FZ07, FZ10 other options that would be similar with different type of motor so would be slightly different riding characteristics.
I’ve been checking out hypers recently. I rode 796 for a quick spin and thought it was cool. Really like to try the current 939. Unfortunately lots of info out there on the SP but the basic model is more my price point.
I considered a SP but I couldn't justify the price jump myself. Sits a little bit higher and has adjustable Ohlins, same 939 performance.
I drove one of those FZ09's recently. The motor is NASTY. I could see myself getting into a lot of trouble with one.

So i'm in active search for one...... A hyper 796
Any areas to worry about maintenance intervals etc , it s a 2v motor so i'm not toooooo worried.
Seeing some on FB for around 6K list ) '08- '10. Seeing its winter I think I should be able to get 5200 out of them
hmmmm......
Came across a 796 2010
For a good price.
The service is due
A diy ? Easy medium? Price at dealer ?
hmmmm......
I don't know exact pricing on dealer maintenance, but I think you can expect easily 1k+ for valves and belts because, Ducati...
And there are guys on here (Degsy and ScottiDucati come to mind) much more experienced than me when it comes to wrenching these motors, but I found that all the hullabaloo about how difficult/sensitive valve and belt service to be overstated. If you're capable enough to find Top Dead Center on each cylinder you'll be totally good. And not having to deal with a cooling system is wonderful.
Equipping yourself with some Ducati specific tools makes the initial cost a little higher, LT Snyder's service manual is very helpful.

^^ What he said.
Also, that is the model that I sold last year, but 2012 not 2010. Great bike IME.
The only shop I would go to is Clubhouse Motorsports (Eric Colbath) in Moultonborough NH. Full service was $658.93 total labor & parts (without fluid changes), that was 3 years ago. Suggest giving him a call. PM me if you want my views on the bike -- had mine for 9 years.

And don't believe everything you think.
I had belts done on my 1200 for 500$ at an independent Duc mechanic. Was 800 at the dealer in Northampton.
Go see Jeff at Seacoast Sport Cycle. I just picked up an 09 Monster 696 for my fiancé to learn to ride on with under 2K miles. I had Dunlop Q3+ tires and belts installed. brake fluid swap, oil, plugs, complete look over. $1,300ish, $538 of that was tires.
2010 motard for 4400no rear pegs..... and 600$ ish for valves? I think this is a good deal. now i just need to talk myself into it that this a great deal and just buy it.
granted its not my preferred color but.....
waiting for a 2013 and higher might not be worth it.
hmmmm......
That is a very good price if that is all it needs. When were the belts done? Any issues with the gas tank? Dates on tires? All worth checking before buying
I think $600 for valves might not be accurate, or it's a really really really good price? $600 for belts maybe, but not valves.
But yes purchase price is good, 2013+ are water cooled.
Edit: good point by dankatz about the tank, they are prone to expansion from ethanol based fuels, mostly remedied with a Caswell coating.

Hyper
I like the air-cooled Ducs, less to mess with or go wrong, easier to maintain, etc. And yeah, it can add up if it needs tires, chain, sprockets, battery, fuel pump ... as with any used bike.
On the tank -- if that turns out to be a problem, I have a NOS tank new-in-the box, never seen fuel (it's for sale).
Again, re. Caswell coating, I don't see how the [expletive deleted] a tank like this could be Caswelled.
If it wuz me, I'd ignore all this bloviating and buy dankatz's turn-key Monster.

Lol, ugliest tank ever. But, I coated the inside of mine to the best of my abilities, LOTS of spinning, turning, etc...
