Two questions on new to me bike 05 r6

So Today when riding home in traffic it was hot.. not blazing hot. Engine temp was around 217ish with the fan kicking in.

I noticed once in a while when I was going nice and slow and stopped the bike on the highway, the check engine/engine light would come on. First time I noticed it I got worried and was going to pull over to see what was going on, but as soon as I moved past 5 or 10mph it disappeared. I watched it for the entire long 1 hr ride in traffic, and it came on maybe once or twice more, only when going really slow/stopping in traffic, but as long as I was moving say.. more than 10mph it would just disappear.

Bike runs perfectly fine, nothing I could figure out was wrong. There is supposed to be a low oil light, but the dipstick shows fine on the oil too. Any idea what it is? Did a quick search online and tried r6forums but didn't see anything of a solution.

Second question about a lowered bike. I'm almost certain that this bike was lowered maybe 1" at most since I can push the bike in my sneakers without my boots on. Front looks like the forks were moved an even smaller amount. I see an adjustable dog link in the back, but if I moved it, I think it would lower it more. Now the question is the kick stand. I know you're supposed to get a shortened kick stand for a lowered bike. This one appears stock with a slight bend in the foot. The bend wasn't really done right, as the foot is slightly not "flat" but it's not bent absurdly. Question to me is that the bike seems to actually lean too much for my liking. Is there a "default angle" this is supposed to sit?

Thanks guys! Really enjoying this R6, handles better and definitely feels more power than my F4, a lot different than my fz6 as well. A little too aggressive of a lean for the handles for me, but since I'm only riding this for fun it's fine

not familiar with the R6 sidestand as to whether or not it comes with a bend (the YZF 600R sidestand is supposed to have a bend, so some do) or the engine light, but i can answer the dogbone Q: on most bikes, shorter dogbones raise the back end, not lower it. so if by 'moving it' you mean making it shorter, it should actually raise the rear.

I think it's on the inner most link now, so if I "move it" to the other one then it will lengthen it and then drop it another bunch... low enough for me as it is. I think I was looking at it to see if I could put it to stock, but unless I get a stock piece I'll just leave it. Much easier for me to push the bike around anyways. I just want to get the stand sorted out. Looking on google it doesn't appear that there should be a bend. Again, it's not too drastic, and the bike is lowered.. yet it seems like it stands too low to the side that it might tip.. I've been using my kickstand puck religiously just because I'm paranoid now

Slightly OT, but I put the 1Tail risers on my old R6 and it made a pretty solid difference in ride/wrist quality. I think they were 3/4", iirc.

Did you try revving the engine when you had the light come on?
I'm curious if it was low oil pressure which would be relieved by higher RPMs. Perhaps the oil is lower weight than recommended and therefore thinner (lower pressure) especially when hot.

I did rev it up a bit, but not too high, no difference. Could be the heat needed more revs.

Ray, I'll see if I can meet you just so you can check out the bike.. maybe this weekend if you're around!

Did you notice the temp when the CEL came on? Was it still at 217?

It could be you were getting just hot enough that the CEL warning came on... when moving the temp quickly dropped. Even with the fan on, sitting still in hot traffic you'd start to climb in temp as all the air around you gets hotter.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.3; en-us; DROIDX Build/4.5.1_57_DX5-26) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

I didn't pay attention if it was related to the temp.. I thought it was that high whenever I park..

Read your owners manual, it should specify if the light is related to your engine temp. My fan kicks at 212, and the CEL light blinks around 240 to let you know the engine needs to be turned off and cool down. I would guess something similar was happening and when you speed up it moved enough air through the radiator and around the engine to cool things down.

Most watercooled motors, 220 is the high side of 'normal'. When moving super slow or stopped if the air around you got too hot for the fan to maintain <220 it could have crept up a bit. I'm not sure how your r6 is, but some/most vehicles will flash some sort of warning with the temps start to get near dangerous. My car blips the CEL when I touch 235...

Damn, I didn't get a manual with my bike, and I tried searching online. The 2006 and up seem to have an actual coolant temp light that will blink past 220... so I guess it's totally possible this is it. I'll have to check if I have a coolant light or just the check engine is the only thing.. I guess I'll leave it at that unless I see it come on again when it's a lower temp.

Register on Yamaha's website. You can download a locked PDF file of the user manual and service manual.....then unlock them for free in about 30 seconds online.

I printed mine and put it in a 3 ring binder and actually use the spaces they have for maintenance and stuff.

Thanks, will do. On the R6 forum they had 03-04 and 06 up.. both I downloaded and the 03-04 said there is no coolant light, the 06+ had one dedicated one.. but both pictures showed different instrument clusters than I have. Weird.
