thinking of lowering my street bike 08 cbr 1000rr by 1 inch.
i have a trackbike so no....this bike is not going to see the track.
what are the cons? will it change the bikes corner handling that much?
is it safe?
anybody know of a good link to diy lowering your bike?

lowering the suspension changes the handling first of all because it changes suspension geometry. on a street cruiser that's ok, but on a highly tuned sport bike it's not a good idea. if you do find that you absolutely want do to it though, make sure you lower front and rear the same amount to keep the geometry as unchanged as possible. not a good idea though. the easiest and best way to lower a bike is to make the seat narrower and lower both so your legs are closer and therefore reach better. more confidence will allow you with more time to feel more at ease keeping balance on one foot.
Eric...I can come by and lower it for you as soon as you get the links or dog bones. I like Sam adams![]()

As mentioned, lower the front and rear.
The front is simple, just slide the fork tubes up in the triples to lower the desired amount. The rear, buy a dogbone link and just swap it out. I'd get an adjustable link if it's available for your bike.
I had a 1998 R1 I lowered for drag racing. It had an adjustable rear link and I just slid the fork tubes up...I think I could lower it to almost 2". At 1", the handling was similar, but at 2" is was quite a bit more noticeable. You may also have to shorten your kickstand

The question of whether or not it is "safe" is only if you're going to extremes, IMO.
I didn't realize it years ago but after a few years of racing I realized how often racers adjust ride height in order to get handling characteristics that makes them happy.
Cons are: If you go too far and your front fender or rear tire whack the underside of some other component on the bike....oh, and the sidestand eventually becomes an issue.
You'll be fine

Before you buy a kickstand, stick a 1" thick piece of wood or something under it to see how it will sit. You may not need that thing.

why are you looking to lower it Eric?
i had mine lowered for a couple years, took it to the track that way too, wasn't HORRIBLE. i don't know how the 1000rr is set up, but on my 600rr you can rotate the triangle bracket that attaches to the dogbone and lower it about an inch for frizee! but here are some other things i did as a vertically challenged person:
