Hey , just wondering , if I get a used naked sv650 , is there anyway I can put a plastic fairing on there to make it look more sporty like the S version ?
nevermind found one after tons of weird looking fairings
called Airtech SVATX full fairing
Yes, but it might will be cheaper and easy to just buy an SVS to begin with. Naked SV might be the way to go, no fairings to damage. I bought my SVS last year, my first motorcycle, everyone told me it would get dropped, and sure enough I did. No damage other than clutch and shift levers. Different story if you crash it.
I went down this weekend, slow at 5 mph in sandy corner, but it still took out left fairing, scratched tail section, clutch and shift levers. Its going to cost around $300 for parts to repair it. Another rider lowsided his new R1 on the exhaust side, and he had an aftermarket pipe, that must have at least hurt his wallet.
There are alot of after market body kits for the SV. Check out the SV website www.svrider.com

90% of the aftermarket bodywork does't appeal to me.
If you have a naked then I think you should go with the Beull blast windscreen and a lower scoop that mounts down below you engine. Eliminate the fender with a undertail or eliminator kit and get a seat cowl. Change the crap handlebars with the suburban machinery type 1 bars and you with have a serious looking streetfighter. Don't forget the frame sliders. They look pretty cool and will save your parts.
as kevin said, svrider.com is required reading for any SV/SVS owner...
the stock SVS fairing won't work if you get a nekkid, because of the handlebar placement.
i say figure out which one appeals to you more, and get that version, ya know? trying to change one into the other is a PITA.
The only "intuitive" interface is the nipple.
It's not just the handlebar... it is a TON of work to put the SVS fairing on the SV.
Basically everything except the forks/wheel/fender/brakes is different on the front of the bike.
The instrument panel is totally different, and even has a different wiring setup. The brake fluid reservoir is different due to the handlebars, etc..
I have a Givi A750 I think. (forget exactly the model #) Other than not blocking the wind off your hands it works fine.

Are you talking about this one?
I'm not real fond of it myself.

I do love the full body airtech plastic though... this is really nice:

that top one would look cool with those mirrors that drop down off the ends of the handlebars.
It's not bad it just reminds me too much of an 80s bike I guess. I'm not that crazy about mine either, but it helps a lot for touring.
There are plenty of us who live in pretty close to Boston... you should have no trouble finding people to ride with. Taylor and I live in Waltham, Oreo lives in Arlington, etc..
Ben
only problem is T still aint got a ride?!?!?!
shut UP, ted!

shit, in arguments like this, i just don't have a leg to stand on...

I considered a Buell windscreen for my SV, not bad looks.... if yer looking at the bike.... but looking at it from the riding position it looks kinda stupid, the offset of the SV gages is not the same at the Buell gage offset. I have the cheap Suzuki flyscreen for mine, but I would like to replace it with a faring from the MotoGuzzi Sport Scura in carbon fibre, but before I do, I want to make sure I can fabricate & mount the proper brackets

Right now I have the Suzuki flyscreen (works ok)but just got the Rodeo flyscreen from streetfighters-it looks good but the jury is still out re: wind protection as it just got here today-

all these naked talk brings me up a question. doesn't the fairing have any useful functions? like earo dynamic when you get up to triple digit? and keeping the heats off your legs?
"fuckit!"
But the nice thing about no fairings is you relax lower back & gut at speed and let the wind take the weight off your handsOriginally posted by DeathMetal
the fairing will minimize the windblast on your upper body.![]()
Not to mention the ability to unzip jacket and ride around like Batman![]()
I've got a dipshitty little fairing around my headlight that flaps around above 60 (in true "What's this cheesy component doing on my 10K bike" Italian fashion...). I take it off as soon as temps raise enough to keep me from trying to crawl inside it(like now).

Yes a fairing will help you at high speeds... no it won't keep the heat off your legs, a faired bike probably runs hotter than a naked one.Originally posted by Kham

The appeal of naked bikes is that you get to see your engine, you don't have to take plastic off to work on it, and it's just different. Oh and probably less insurance $$$ too.
Ben
oh yea good point, like one of those chopers, but it's not sporty.Originally posted by benSV

and i know a bunch of faired bikes that don't look badass. The point I'm tryingot make is that a naked bike can look just as good as the best of the fared bikes.
probably futile, tho...)
