is the bear catholic, does the pope shit in the woods

deer, my friend, are nocturnal creatures, they do most of their foraging at night, especially on highway medians where the state has cultivated the things that deer like to include in their diet

Learnt in Va. a long time back, if your lights are any good at all, they'll pick up the white ass on a deer at one end, the beady green eyes at the other and well in advance of your arrival unless yer squiddin'. Nights are ok, I'm lucky I still have pretty good glare recovery and out on the slabs, you can scan the road surface behind the tail lights of the cars ahead for spills, and it's easy to see cars bounce at night telling of impending heaves and potholes. But if you can't see details in the lights a great distance beyond your headlights anymore, night rides have to suck. A fairly pleasant and speedy ride at night is 128 north through the roundabouts to 127 and follow that suckuh on out for 20 or 30 before heading back down.If you're into the high-speed sweepers play, 128 North of exit 18 is newly paved and is velvet right now. It's slab, but in hyper-travel its right twisty up there. Big fun! No cops, either, so far. Just about what my bike was built for..

I thoroughly enjoy riding (and driving) in the dark, where up-most concentration and reaction times are a must.

A properly aimed headlight and clean visor help a bit.

I love riding at night. I have my DOT orange vest I throw on ($16 bucks @ Wal-Mart) Now my vision sucks as well but I ride well withing my headlights and its all about enjoyment, clear roads and cool temps, not about knee down twisty action

My next motorcycle will have at minimum a projector headlight that can be properly turned into a true xenon headlight. I will probably put extra lighting on it as well. I am of the belief that if you want to go "fast" at night, you can never have to much lighting.

    Re: Night Riding?

Traffic on a nice moonlite night is not so bad and makes for a fun ride with a bit of illumination. When the roads get dark and twisty you can't scan the pavement for objects in the road - that could make for a nasty wake up when hit or rolled over - cuts out all the fun low corners. One night around 1pm I turned a corner on ri rt 4 (highway) at 70 mph to be greeted by a large doe lying in my lane with the legs faceing me. I aimed for the chest and stood on the pegs and went for a very long 2' jump. Lucky once and don't want to press my luck

I like night riding cept for all the bugs. You can feel the temp changes and it just seems to "wash off" the dirt of the day. I back it down a few notches and just cruise the roads. It is the best time to be in the city, fewer cages, less traffic and the cops don't bother you to much.
