Damn this really sucks. I just got off the phone with the shop fixing my bike and I found out that the plastic that covers the ABS module (if mine was ABS version) is on back-order and there is NO ETA.
The shop is going to let me pay for everything take the bike with the old plastic on it and then I will get the other plastic on when it arrives.
You wouldn't think that with such new bikes that single plastic would be on back order. They come on all new bikes so they must have them lol

Perhaps the earthquake in Japan...
Do you have any idea what their production schedule for that one piece was? What their supply was? What the demand was for that one piece, both before and after the earthquake?
If it's one piece used for one bike, then it's likely the supply was already very small to begin with (just in time manufacturing processes), the earthquake wiped out potential for future supply, and the existing demand wiped out the current supplyDoesn't seem that strange to me

I've never seen one, but the plastic part that covers the ABS module is going to have totally different performance requirements than something like a fairing (heat stability vs. cosmetics) and are going to be completely different materials, requiring different machinery to produce + different expertise. It's not likely that they're produced in the same facility, or even by the same manufacturer.

Honda has their own island with their own power and shipping port. I believe they also manufacture their own plastic parts. I bet you will see the part within a couple of weeks. Backordered means none in USA. I'm pretty sure Honda probably have a charter plane from japan to USA most days to cover car and bike parts on order.
The Tsunami probably has things still backed up....
I had to wait for gaskets..............

I still have to wait for Cars to sell... ( Toyota's ) the Tsunami F'd up Japan's Exporting
Since it's a new bike, and a current year, MOST of the parts are going into building them, and not necessarily into spare parts warehouses.
I'd take it back, and ride it until they get it in. Who knows how long it'll take, and it September already. You can afford to wait when it's cold...not now.

yep which I would have done if the bike were ride-able. They just got the parts in which would make it ride-able and are expecting all but the one plastic to arrive today/tomorrow.
I will be taking the bike back and riding with the one scuffed plastic until the back ordered piece arrives.
GOD DAMNNIT! They got the plastics in on Saturday and Honda shipped the the incorrect plastics. They cross referenced the codes on the back of my plastics and they ordered the proper parts but Honda shipped the wrong ones
Anyway they said they should have the proper plastics on Thursday and will have it ready for Friday pick-up, that is providing Honda ships the proper plastics.
what dealer has the bike?

good 2.5 hours from here and now only reachable via I-90.
Got the bike back. Appears honda had all the part numbers wrong on the microfiche and ALL but 1 plastic is on back order.
I grabbed the bike and installed the new exhaust and flush mounts. I had to remove the heat shield though and not sure I like that.
though I think I will get protons soon as you really cannot see the turn signals.
The bike shop will install the new plastics when they come in.
All I have left to install is the sliders and hids.
ok so now this really sucks lol. I called Ronnies yesterday to cancel my plastics as Landric's Customs stated they could be fixed. The manager had me call back today and talk with the service manager. I told him I wanted to cancel all plastics except for the one that is cracked and he said that's fine. It was not until I asked the estimated arrival date for the cracked one that he said it looks like they are all here except for one which should be here tomorrow.
Now that they are there (today) and I requested the cancellation yesterday they said I have to pay a re-stocking fee of 20% which I am not ok with.
So my question is this. Do you think if I sold all the new plastics would I have to take more than a 20% hit to get rid of them? I'm not even sure how easy it will be to find someone that needs the 2011 plastics.
I wouldn't mind keeping them since they did not cost me anything (insurance) but I don't have the place to store the spare set currently.
Thoughts?
I'd keep em for a while, and sell em in a year or so when more peeps will be looking. (or god forbid you need them again)
