    Re: Project: Grom 2.0

took it out for a ride yesterday evening and made a mental list of things to adjust.

    - moved the brake line as the angle was not smooth. then had to bleed the brakes again.
    - loosen header pipe and twist it to see if the muffler can go higher.
    - drill a new hole on the exhaust hanger from above
    - tire pressures are low and need air
    - tighten chain more
    - dash needs to learn all 6 gears. currently only learned 1-4.

other than that, it's good. just need to keep adding miles for the autotune to make a map

i did a follow up last night for them to check with the peeps in charge if they're ok with it. the key is for them to say CBR300 and not Grom.

i have fresh tires and angled valve stems to put on at NHMS. also just got a new pitbull mini front pin stand for the bike, thanks to Boston Moto.

all i have left is to get 200 miles on this bike so the aRacer will make a map.

just took it on the highway for lunch for the first time. the old OEM tires are junk and out of balance. i have new michelin tires to go on for the Classic weekend.

the Navi is an automatic and completely different. the Monkey would be a better project and they're super cool looking.

    Re: Project: Grom 2.0

so yesterday I installed the "B" return cable for a 2014-2015 Grom for the throttle bodies, and tried to fit a 2006 R6 throttle tube for shorter throw. what a pain.

besides my after market side fairing, i had to remove the OEM side fairing under which goes all the way to the undertail. which also means i had to remove the exhaust can because i couldnt get to the philips screws right above the can. the can was also safety wired because i didnt have springs that short. took it all apart to see that the OG cable was still too short on the throttle bodies. the swap groups that know this stuff convinced me that they fit, and maybe they do....but mine wouldnt.

so i left the cable in there not connected to the TB's and put it all back together. the R6 tube didnt clear the control assembly, so it was a 2+ hour waste of time. but at least now the RH control doesnt have a hole where the return cable goes.

i need to hit the 200 mile mark to complete the map on the aRacer before i can really give it a for review. i'll have new tires on it this weekend at the Classic. My first highway ride was scary as the OEM 2018 tires were shot and way unbalanced. it was vibrating crazy at 75 MPH. This build has given me nothing but problems since day 1, so i've had a sour opinion on this bike.

I love my 2v 181 NEO Grom as it's very torquey. only issue with that bike is you cant cruise in the pits with low throttle. the bike needs constant throttle or I'll be very jerky. the 300 feels more powerful, but doesnt have that instant torque like my 181 does. but we'll see after i complete the map.

    for those interested:
    CBR 250 motor: 20 hp
    2v 181 NEO build: ~22hp
    CBR 300 motor: 30 hp

So the bike has been running rough. After a few rides watching the data, the AFR has been way off.

Attempted to reflash the map and well…no bueno. ECU is now locked in an error code

Now I gotta ship it out to someone who has a cable to fix it for me.

Looks like the new O2 sensor is the culprit for my AFR being all messed up.

While I had the bodywork off, had the opportunity to fix the throttle cables. The return cable will reach if I do that one first, then adjust the pull cable. Now I have a functioning return cable.

waiting for my ECU to arrive at the shop, so they can clear the error lock with the cable and laptop

New dash arrived yesterday. Reason I wasn’t getting any temp readings on the dash is because the cable wasn’t included from the seller. Risks of buying used. Anyways the cable is installed now in this mess of wiring. A splitter goes from the dash to the OEM harness to the 300/Grom adapter to the 300 oil temp sensor.

    Re: Project: Grom 2.0

ECU came back and flashed back to a stock Grom motor. Set up the fuel, auto tune, throttle position, and everything else in the aRacer.

Got it idling good after warming it up.

Here’s a view of the non-ECU side; so you get an idea on the wiring and relocating the throttle bodies. It’s a tight fit.

yes that is a small cone.
some people dont use a filter and just get a screen to go over the throttle bodies.

    Re: Project: Grom 2.0

So I have been struggling with getting a good map on this bike. The gurus stated that my AF1 is not adequate for a 300 map as it makes about 10 cells versus 1000 cells on the AF3. In order to use the latest auto tuner AF3, I would also need to replace the ECU with the newest version MiniXx.

It’s crazy how much easier these newer devices are to install. No extra wire splitters. No extra cabling. No Bluetooth adapter. Connect to the ECU via WiFi and config your settings. Much cleaner install and easier setup.
