Track items serve no purpose other than to CONFUSE the general public.
I did a point by in my F150 for the guy to overtake me (ME being in the slow lane) and he just hit the brakes assuming I was going there. That F'd up my falling in behind him idea.
NEVER stay in a BLIND SPOT.....................
TWO things I always shoot for.
The back end of a vehicle. The "can't go back from where it came from" mentality. Worked for me on a deer which then stepped FORWARD into oncoming traffic..................................
Head for the BDL. NOT the one on the right, as there is MORE likely some stopped vehicle in it, but the narrow strip left of the drivers door. I actually favor that area when the freeway opens up with a Jersey (concrete) barrier there. The run off area, generally, is quite generous................... if I'm lucky.
DISCLAIMER: I cage WAY more than I cycle. So by force of habit, I do some things others see as WTF?

- I never ride too long within any vehicles "blind spot". The longer you hover in their blind spot, the more likely they are to "forget" you are there, thus increasing the possibility that they might turn right into you for whatever reason (I ALWAYS assume they WILL forget, AND turn in towards me, thus, my space cushion).
- (this is sure to legitimately be controversial)
When aggressively "working" traffic (weaving in and out of lanes in between cars) I try to keep in mind the perspectives of all the other drivers in my forward vicinity (this does not mean attention to what is going on behind is ignored, I frequently glance behind me in some fashion (either by a quick physical head turn, or a glance into the mirrors, depending on the situation at hand of course, because I always ASSUME some a-hole who's doing the same thing is going to come up charging behind me (or a cop)).
