question... i am trying to solve a problem for my roomate and his new harley... how many ponies does she make?
Harley only specs the torque and i cant find a dyno chart anywhere... so all you web surfers with nothing to do... help a brudda out!
its a 2005 Electra Glide.

that pos makes 86 ft pounds of torque @3500rpm
I did the torque x 5250 \ rpm=hp and got 129hp
but that number seems high to me. I didn't think hardley made those hp numbers from a stock bike

My dad told me I could be anything I wanted when I grew up. So I became an Asshole.
im betting its around 75-85 HP.
The Street Rod and Vrod make around 114 hp
It's more like 50-60hp stock... and that is from looking at Dynos.
The issue is it makes that huge amount of torque pretty close to idle and immediately tails off... it is not making anything like peak torque at 5000+ rpm where it starts to translate into serious horsepower.
I found that the 2002 model had 67 horses so i don't see it jumping up that much for the 05 model. My gues would be in the 80's range because the 2005 has more cc's
They do make in the ~85hp range with the screaming eagle kits, Stage 1/2 mods, etc.. that most owners do...
Harley just can't stick that on all the models cause it violates some of the EPA stuff or something.
Basically they can make plenty of power but not in a clean/efficient manner like a newer design.
this site has some information but i haven't found the exact numbers for the harley

That is only if the thing will spin 5250 which I don't think it willOriginally posted by dhuze

Gerard
EVO Stage 1 - 64hp
EVO Stage 2 - 74hp
EVO Stage 3 - 95hp
EVO Stage 4 - Drop in TL1000, RC-51, Duc engine
what the hell does evo mean in those stage notations?
60 hp doesn't seem right? seems to low to me. its a 88ci with the fuel injection... my ass dyno was guessing mid 70's.

I think it just means "Evolution engine" That is the name for Harley's latest Big twin air-cooled motor AFAIK, the motor that basically saved the company.
Unless they changed the name again the last few years.
Cruisers always feel faster than they are... the butt-dyno does not work correctly between a sportbike & cruiser IMO.
i don't care how many times they redo that air cooled dino motor its still old technology. the more power you try to make with them the less reliable they become.
ben said it right drop in a rc51 motor. talk about a sleeper!
that's cause I think you multiply the torque by the rpm then divide by 5250, that would make it 57.3 @ 3500 prolly 60something at a 4000rpm redlineOriginally posted by dhuze

The "EVO" does designate the evolution engine but they don't use that in most of their newer bikes. They now use the TC88 motor which stands for "Twin Cam" and does put out about 10-15% more hp than the Evo. Not to be confused with the "Revolution" water cooled engine used in the V-Rod.
Cheers, Lee S.
I know i'm slow, you don't have to rub it in.
Why, Yes! I do think you're a Wanker!
ah HA! So that means the TC88 might put out about 70 hp?
sweet! My Arse dyno IS IN DEED tuned, thank you very much!
thanks for all the info, i knew you guys wouldn't let me down!

You know that looks about right. The way I did it is straight from a web site which may have it wrong. I thought the harley made around 60hpOriginally posted by RandyO

It's really funny how harley will not put out their hp numbers, maybe because a 1340cc motor ought to make more hp by accident thanit actually does.

those things only redline at 4k?lmaoo
They will go to 5500...Reason for such low HP, is because they have to keep the compression ratio low to pass emissions.Originally posted by damannz

I recall having seen hardley dynographs, I don't remember any numbers, peak 86lbft is misleading , they have a flat torque curve, wouldn't surprise if it's 75 or more at an idle, then it drops off as it approaches redline.Originally posted by oreo_n2

If you check the websites they all say 86 ft pounds but you know it's bhp not rwhpOriginally posted by RandyO

if it is a Twin cam motor (which im sure it is) then this math will almost be correct. 75 HP out of a stock TC is about normal. Evo's put out around 60-65.
none of this matters because my SV makes more power than both![]()

also i beleive the number is 5252 not 5250 since 5252 is RPM that HP and Torque are exactly the same...on every bike
not that it makes any difference in the math
