Leaving space, traffic or not, is never impossible. And with an attitude like that, I'm betting this won't be your last get off.

it probably wont be the last, hell i would be naive if i stated it would be as you never know.
While it is possible to leave space in front of you it does not last longer than a minute or so before someone driving a car slides in front of me. I then have to adjust speed again to put that space back.
In theory yes it's possible just wait till after rush hour![]()
I've wanted to go down the shoulder numerous times but never seem to do it while riding solo. For some reason when riding with others it seems like less of an issue to me though in reality it's not. Generally if I see a bike go down the shoulder while I am sitting in traffic they get pulled over a short distance ahead. I've seen that about 2 times since June actually.
I commuted from Manchester to Cambridge for 6 months. I know all about rush hour traffic. You let the cars in and you adjust. You relax and realize that you can't control the asshole drivers around you, but you can save yourself a lot of time and money (just wait until your insurance on your bike renews) by leaving that cushion.
Anyone here who's logged a decent number of street miles will tell you how many times that cushion has saved their lives. What you did was fucking stupid, you're lucky you're not worse for the wear and instead of thinking to yourself that in rush hour traffic, its not possible to leave a decent amount of space, you might want to either start driving your car to work or adjusting the way you ride.

Jackie, in that last post of yours I couldn't help but think how much you sound like a mom.

I ride in that shit too. Shit happens.
Just glad it hasn't happened to me, yet.
Dude your insurance was crazy pricey as is... 4 points? I'm cringing thinking about what you are going to be paying.
Buy a bike privately and save some dough!

It's my opinion. Why does it bother you, mr tow man?Originally Posted by wil11748
I'll back up Degsy's opinion. Had a couple cars towed for various reasons over the years.
Let's relive the moments:
Mom's Caddy was smoked in (cigars in particular to which I got an ass chewing for it because she thought it was me)
My Acura had damage to the undercarriage (no,it was not lowered or modified in any way)
Mom's Grand Am came back with a dent in the driver's rear fender
Mom's 300M had shit piled on it which scratched the paint on the hood, roof and trunk
My RamCharger was dropped off with a bent front bumper
Friend's Probe had the exhaust all but torn off
Friend's Subaru was dragged (instead of flatbedded) which trashed the AWD
...and you wanna know the commonality in every single one of these towing scenarios? Rather than owning up to the damages, NONE of the tow guys felt they were liable.
The friend with the Subaru did get some compensation after almost a year in court but the other situations were not corrected.
I had over 400 CDs that were in one of those binders stolen by the tow truck driver when I had my first ever accident. Still miss that Mary Playground CD![]()

when i almost got arrested for driving (riding with no license) the tow guy who came was revving my gsxr and was telling his partner to take it for a ride, after i told the officer about their "jokes" he followed us to my house to make sure they wont do anything stupid with my bike..
Worcester tow drivers and owners are the only ones I can express an opinion for and their dickheads.. once again exceptions always exist but good luck
I am just glad they deemed the bike a total loss. When the towing company arrived at the accident I figured they would have a flat bed. The only damage to the bike was on the nose/front area. The sides were fine without a scratch, until the tow guy hooked the bike to the back of a normal tow truck, in the process scratching the left side.
I was once almost in an accident on Rt. 128. Traffic came to a dead stop in front of me and I was not paying as much attention as I should have. Pretty much did a stoppie in between the two lanes of traffic. Looked at both drivers on either side of me and just gave them a thumbs up.
On a related note, if you want another bike cheap and quick with that new insurance payout, there is an awesome SV for sale on a thread on here.
