no really. I like the D204k for the hawk, but cannot find them. I'm looking for a replacement(read CHEAP) set. I liked the MEZ3's on my SV, and the MEZ1's on the TL, wadda ya got???? I'm no racer, but I try to put on a lot of miles.....
I have about 2500 miles on my Metzeler M1s right now and I must say that I've been pretty impressed with their performance. They provide excellent grip and warm up pretty quickly.
I was somewhat leery about trying them out after reading ChR1s' story about them; but I think that his experience was atypical. Unfortunately, it does illustrate that their QC may need work and that their customer service kind of sucks.
Are you on the VTR mailing list? It seems that there is a tire discussion every month or so. Some of those guys highly recommend the Pirelli Diablo Corsas. From what I understand, though, treadwear is quite accelerated with those.
What are you looking for in a tire? (Track day performance, tread wear, commuter duty?) You can't really get one tire that does everything great, so you have to figure out what kind of riding you do most and make your purchase decisions accordingly. You hint that you are looking to get some good mileage out of your tires. You might want to consider something like the Michelin Pilot Road, the Avon ST45/46, Dunlop D220, or the Bridgestone BT020 if I'm reading into what you are asking accurately. I've heard really good stuff about both the Pilots and the Avons.
Good luck and let us know what you end up with. I know I probably raised more questions that I answered...![]()

Just ordered D208's from MAW.... oh and a new helmet![]()
When I had wunna them thar Chicken thingies, I ran D207's on it and loved 'em!
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
I just put Pilot sports on my bike, the first non Dunlops ever for me mind you. So far they have been very good. I scrubbed then in at the last Tony's track day, then followed to push them pretty hard. They performed very well. Heated up quickly then had a predictable feel when they were pushed hard (ie coming out of turns 4 & 6). Untill the last session when they were slightly over heated and started to get greasy, they were very good.
All that being said I still love the 208's. They were very similar on the track, but wore funny (feathering) on the front from street riding. I don't know how the sports will wear so can't comment yet. Either way I think all the top end sport tires are very good, it is almost just a personal choice now. Unless you have a unique bike or are capable to use them to the limits regularly.

My Hawk is getting shod with Metzeler M-1's for the 3rd time.
I still love the smell of burnt racing fuel in the morning!
