    need to tow my bike.

I always used another bike operated by someone sane

If downtown i would do it at the crack of dawn on a weekend

Take a rope like 30 feet
    Tie onto towing bike

Take one loop around a handle bar and hold the other for
    instant release

Keep either foot and or hand on brake for instant action.

Don't go over 30 and keep a little tension at all times even if you have to drag the rear brake a touch.

After a couple of miles you'll be a pro

    need to tow my bike.

try a uhaul van or one of the small box trucks. you might need two people for that job though and some tie downs.

I hope you're jokin, bro Not safe at all, especially in BOSTON... even if there's miraculusly no traffic. Way more trouble than a flatbed and much slower at that. Does it work? Sure... but i sure as hell wouldn't do it under normal circumstances.

    need to tow my bike.

Why transport the bike? Just transport the case cover.

Are you taking it to be welded? Are you going to buy an aftermarket or ebay case cover?

Not trying to be a dick, just offering that it may be easier to deal with the smaller part.

Oh, and growing up on the farm, we did the richw thing more than the safe u-haul route, city-slicker.

    .
Read the location, the bike wouldn't be there when he got back

When I first started riding, a friend of mine broke his chain about 20 miles from his house. Another friend "pushed" his bike with his foot on the footpeg of the other bike while riding beside it. It got him home, worked well and seemed reasonably safe. I've also seen people "pushing" bikes around the pits at NHIS the same way

    need to tow my bike.

thanks for the input guys. i'll try richw's suggestion with my friend's car instead of his bike!

anyways. i store my bike in quincy in my friends garage every winter. I also just ordered a crank case cover off flatout along with the gasket and new bolts.

i was looking on craigslist and there are a lot of guys out there with vans and pickups who offer to tow for like $50plus mileage. I'll either settle for that or call AAA. Thanks guys!

    need to tow my bike.

AAA will not tow bikes! Rent a uhaul van for $19.99 for the day, they charge like 60 cents a mile or rent the home cheapo truck, buy a couple of boards to load the bike then when you return the truck, return the wood for a refund.

    Good luck
