There was a post on this a while back and I, as well as everyone else, was convinced it wasn't going to happen.
Well apparently it is...Yesterday my brother in law told me his company has bid on some of the work being done at the site. He's guessing it will be at least a year, most likely a year and a half for his part in it. Given his role with his company and what they do, he is very involved and knows a lot about what's going on (he pretty much runs the company). Apparently this is going to be a very impressive facility. He isn't really into racing so he doesn't have a ton of track knowledge but he was told by the owner it will be a "formula one" style track capable of multiple configurations with at least one being over 3 miles in length.
They had two major issues which brought the progress to a halt. One was the town not wanting to approve the project, and the second was money. He didn't have any details as to what changed, but he said both hurdles have been overcome and the project is under way. He did mention something about a second big investor getting involved, and that this was one of the major reasons why the project has resumed. I told him I will believe it when it's done. He responded by explaining with the money they are throwing down, the people involved, and the planning, they are months away from executing on it. He then said when you consider what his company does, they wouldn't be bidding on it if it wasn't going to happen.
I mentioned how it would be nice to ride there someday and he said the owner is frequently stressing the fact that it's going to be a private track. Personally, I doubt it. I'm convinced this is a stunt to get by the approvals. There's no way they are going to keep such a big facility private.

Heard it all before.
What does your brothers company do?
The project was not subject to approval by Town of Tamworth as they had no regulation the time it was started. they tried stopping it by passing wetland regulations after the fact that was unwinable in court but would require the developers to spend more money to defend in court
only real issue is money. Tamworth still has no comprehensive zoning ordinance or site plan review

Fucking money is always the issue!
The town of Tamworth put up one hell if a fight AFTER ground was broke several years ago. That was the biggest factor in sucking the funds dry. The whole 2008 mess didn't help.
Limerock tried to go to a membership model and it's not working out so well so far.
Monticello was supposed to be private but they "allowed" other groups in to keep them afloat.
Even if Valley Motorsports becomes reality they're going to need the clubs and track day organizations to make it sustainable. Hell, even NHMS needs us to keep the place running in the black.....

The town didn't want the track and therefore they were doing everything they could to stop it. Exactly what measures were being taken I don't know, but I do know they were creating some issues that slowed the progress quite a bit and those issues have been overcome.
My bro in law did stress that it was more about money than anything. Apparently it's the new investor getting involved that put things into motion.
As far as I know none of this is really confidential but I don't feel comfortable going into detail because it's second-hand information. I also don't want to go into detail about what he does because I don't want his competitors knowing he's bidding etc. I'm not sure how all of that works and it's not my place to start letting information like that out. It's a small world and you would be surpised who knows who out there. For all I know the son of his biggest competitor is on this site reading this post.
I will leave it at this...His company is involved with preparing the site to build the track and he is required to know the plan from start to finish to do his part. He also needs to know all of this before he bids so he knows the t's and c's of the project and therefore how much to bid. That being said he has been well oriented with what is going to be built, as well as the time frames they are aiming to build it.
With that information, he is a pretty good source and says the track is being built. By being built, he means it's going to happen. No more delays, no more snags, now it's just a matter of letting the actual construction stage take it's course. Whether it will be a success from the business standpoint etc, well that's a whole other story, but the track will be there either way.
Bottom line, they've got the money to do it and they are doing it.

Property taxes are killer. I've heard the small chunk of property in Canterbury costs almost as much as the rest of the place .
If one NASCAR race could keep the lights on (and everybody employed) there wouldn't be such a huge flap over losing one race. Notice all the new things they're trying to bring people in? SMI isn't going to be satisfied with revenue neutral. Even if they were what happens if that one race goes away? NASCAR isn't guaranteed to keep coming to Loudon.
Tamworth is on the western side of Rt.16 between Ossipee and Conway.

I don't know much about this one (I've been trying to follow the NY track), but it really seems like until a wheel is turning, there will always be doubt.

Like others said, I'll believe it when it's open. Just because they've got the money and are doing it doesn't mean much.
I still think the second race is all gravy. No one wants to loose it because all of NH would lose revenue, not just the track. My only point we, LRRS, don't make a scratch compared to one NASCAR race. Eric said in a post this past week that NASR accounts for 95% of the tracks income.
Mr Smith was quoted once when asked about moving a race or not holding a race for construction. His response, 'I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but I'm in the business of making money.'
Back to day dreaming about the new track...I'm glad I'm working on building a camper/hauler.

Good news
Tamworth voted out wetlands ordinance that was holding track up on town end, and Town of Ossipee selectment vote to support the track and hold necessary conservation easements for state wetlands permit and corps or engineers mitigation requirement
