    Concurent 48in10 and 50cc planning

I'm in the planning stages of a big IBA certificate ride, been thinking of a 50cc (coast to coast in 50 hours) a couple years now, and determined it would be a 7 or 8 day adventure total, to ride to Jacksonville to start the 50cc, then the ride back from San Diego

what ta heck, add a couple more days and do the 48 states in 10 days ride

    my preliminary route
    http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...,48.515625&z=4

total length of ride will be about 9,800 miles, google estimates 6 days 20 hours road time, so that's about 16-17 hours of riding 10 days straight

the beginning of the ride will start with slower progress, lower speed limits and time spent making extra stops just to get a receipt, I only roughed the basic route, I know I can shave some time, 50cc from Jax to SD is normally easy, but my plan is to make a couple extra stops for receipts and go quite a way out of the way off the highway to pickup receipts in Arkansas & Oklahoma

this is a ride that I wouldn't mind riding with someone else that has a similar goal

ya, $$$$ like I said, I'm in the planning stages, 10k miles will mean 250± gallons of fuel along the way, $$$$ for preping the bike with fresh tire, chain?, sprockets? and routine service I'll prolly spend the extra $$ for synthetic oil and not do any changes on the road

its a 2 week away from work adventure, scheduling that much time away may not be possible

right now, I'm figuring $5000 between preping the bike and actual cost of the trip

I toyed with the idea of doing that but after doing the 1500 mile butt burner thing , I found myself really bored with the whole idea. Chasing receipts and keeping track of time and mileage got to be a chore.
I like the long distance riding but don't feel the need to log it or keep track.
I do admire the folks that do it as they have more persevervance for paperwork than I'll ever have

Are you planning to go to the four corners and get those four states?

Re: Concurent 48in10 and 50cc planning

the more planning I do, I'm second guessing the plan to do the 48in10m my original ideal was similar to my BBG ride 2 summers ago, I left Newingon,NH on a Saturday evening at 6pm and rolled into Joplin, MO on sunday at 4pm, got a good nite sleep, woke up @5am, on the road by 5:30 just started wondering around, rode into Kansas, made a left turn onto a dirt road, next thin I knew, I was in Oklahoma, back in to MO, Arkansas, Ozark twisities are AWESOME, just for one day of riding it was worth the 1500 mile trip, that evening I ended up in Vivian, LA then headed back toard NH the next morning, kinda rode straight thru on the way back, spend a few hours in the "IronButt Motel" somewhere in Tennesee I was gone 4½ days/4200 miles

my original plan for the 50cc was just to get one day of riding on AZ 191 / Coronado Trail / Devils Hwy,
    http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...30d2ef3644&z=9

supose to be 1800 turns in 90 miles

then beeline back to NH, total trip would be between 7500-8500 miles

the only part of the trip I would document for an IBA cert would be the 50cc

like Mick sez, IBA paperwork is a pia, and the more I think about documenting the whole ride, the less I wanna do it
