Heh, heh...I agree with you on that. But if you don't get faster then a 1:28's you won't have to worry about setting your suspension up.![]()
Yeah, I plan on doing as many Thursdays as I can. My goal is to get into the teens this year. That way when I get a 1:19.99, I can say, "...yup, I'm runnin' teens at NHIS..."I'm just fuckin with ya Jay. I bet you will get into the teens no problem next year. Are you going to do some of the open practices again like last year?

OK without being a smart ass; If you are already fmailiar and comfortable with suspension setup on motorcycles, go buy beer!
Last year I went to a suspension seminar with gixxer.com in January. Being my rookie year, I was VERY glad I had paid $90 to hear Max Macallister (sp?) explain everything to me. I knew during race season what was hapening when more rebound was put into the bike, what sag meant, low speed vs high speed damping, etc...
Prior, I had just read the magazines and tried to imagine the application of terms, very poor way to do it.
I have not paid anyone to set up my race bike, Derek had, and we are close enough all I had to do was minor adjustments to try stuff, but I knew what the outcome should be to those adjustments largely due to the class.
Somone pushing down on the bars in front of you, letting you test the stick/slip to see if the forks were straight... is a much better learning experience, I remember the class, took notes, learned a lot.
I don't know if this will be the same. I do know Peter Kates is one of the better speakers I have heard trackside.

A big thank you to Derek for setting this up and Peter Kates for offering up his time to NESR Racing for a VERY thorough explanation of chassis geometry and inner workings of suspension. Reinforced a lot of principles and taught me new ones. The hands-on approach goes above and beyond what could be derived from a book or video. Thank you.

Nope, didn't walk away knowing everything there is to know about suspension. But I *DID* walk away with a world of knowledge passed to us by Peter Kates. Above and beyond learning exactly what goes in to what he does, I learned a SHITLOAD about the workings of suspension. I can't believe I was stuffed with that much info in such a short time. The thorough explanations along with all those graphs went a long way explaining ALL the functions of suspension components and bike geometry. Not to mention, he took basically an entire Saturday to do this for US. Outstanding presentation...
Those that sat on the fence with this really missed out too. He ended up doing it for FREE!
Thanks Peter! For the time and effort you put into this...

Free.. hahaha damn! I really wanted to go... just wasn't in the damn budget...buying a house in MA has killed me.. damn real estate prices..
Good for you guys tho.. sounds like it was helpful to everyone who went.
I have Kevin Cameron's sportbike performance handbook and that goes over suspension a little bit so i'm going to experiment the way he recommends and hopefully i can get a feel for it.. so that next year when i got some more $ i can hit a track day...
