Any Mainiacs out there that have any suggestions or opinions on routes from the Bethel area to Bar Harbor?? Thanks in advance.![]()
Ya can't get there from here.
(I got nothing at the moment, but I may have notes from a trip a couple years ago, gotta look...we went to Bar Harbor but not through Bethel.)
Let me ask a friend of mine, he rides all over this state. Might have a good route or two for you. When you get to Bar Harbor, let me know....I live here!
Rte 26 to rte 219 in west Paris. 219 will take you to turner, 106 to Augusta, rte 3 to bucksport, 46 to east holden, 1a to ellsworth..lots of good roads in between. I grew up riding in midcoast, pm me if you need any info/advice on your route.
The other option is to head north, wind your way over to Jackman and Greenville, and then work your way east and southeast. It ain't quick, but it can be scenic (and there is some decent riding, too, but there's a lot of fairly straight road). We came through Calais doing that, but we also camped in Jackman.
I have these routes and a few others as a GPX file if you like.

Pardon the editing of the vid, but it does show some good roads in Maine and what they're like.
