March 28th open season rideee
From the booming metropolis of Upton Ma. We leave heading north on rt140, until we reach the town of Winchendon. Here we pick up rt 12 and proceed north to Keene. Take a left onto rt 101 until you get to rt 9. This road is a spectacular mountain road with plenty of rolling sweepers that take you over and under many of the southern Vermont hills. There are several look outs and rest areas that make for some great photo opts.
Leave Bennington by way of rt 9 west, continue to rt 22 in Hoosick falls NY. There you will take rt 22 south to the Teconic trail parkway which heads you back east towards Williamstown Ma. Look for signs to rt 2 east. This is one of the best sections of mountain roadway in all of New England. The road takes you up and over several mountains in the Berkshire range. The scenery is breathtaking, and the road will have you giggling like a school girl (if your into big sweeping high speed (50ish) corners. After approximately 10 miles of fun you will come to the town of North Adams where you can gas up, catch your breath and get a refreshment. When your ready, continue on rt 2 east. On this section you will be climbing to the top of the Mohawk trail, beware of the 5 mph hairpin, uphill, off camber right turn as you pass by the Eagles Nest restaurant (which by the way serves a very good lunch) The views from the restaurant are incredible. You can see all the way to the bottom of the valley. At the end of this segmant you will come to Greenfield where you can take rt 10 south to rt 116 east which leads you through Amherst where you can pick up rt 9 east back to Upton.
This is about a 240 mile ride. Please plan on taking an hour lunch break... We will be meeting @ 10 am ath rt 135 mcdonalds in Framingham ma. We WILL ride out @ 1045... so please don't be late. Especially the people riding an hour to get here. If you are going to be late please shoot me a txt or a call. You can maybe meet us on route. I do plan on us eating @ Eagles nest so bring some money for food and gas. Bring your cameras if you want to take some scenic pictures so we can post up on NESR. If anyone has a problem with this route please let me know. But I am pretty firm on the route. I didnt throw too many twisties in there because of how early it is in the season.
28 more days suckas!!!!

Wirelessly posted (Tilt: HTC-ST7377/1.59.502.3 (67150) Opera/9.50 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en))
holy route batman, the mohawk trail will be nice, i love the twistys once route 2 goes to the stix
Yeah this is a pretty intense opening season ride... I figured it would have been smaller than this but hey its cool. I just wish you picked something closer to where I live so on the way home I could just bug out. But luckily there are the other Lowell guys and I will just ride back with them.
So ray you going to memorize the whole route?
Wirelessly posted (Tilt: HTC-ST7377/1.59.502.3 (67150) Opera/9.50 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en))
new fangled gps most likely, i should be hard wired with a gps aswell
most likely
Jeez Ray. That is much more of I ride than I invisioned.
With all the bullshit going on right now, I have not been participating in the planning of this ride, but I will be trying to do so more from now on. I need the damn distraction. Just don't mind me if I bug out when we get to Greenfield or if my heads on a spin. That's where "she-who-must-not-be-named" is and honestly, I don't want to see her (NOT a big town, haha).
Anyway, jokes aside. Start getting your rides ready. IF you have intercom/integrated phone systems, be ready to share info. IF we have enough people I will lead a 3rd group. I'm not going out there to ride like an ass hat first ride of the season, so I will be taking it nice and easy. I need my bike to keep me sane this season so no crashing me or crashing infront of me.
Another thing to take note of. I am a Medic/LPN/Medical person thingy, it would be good to know who else has any experience. IF you have never read the "what to do on a ride when someone goes down" stick, READ IT! But if someone goes down and I come running up and push you out of the way, don't be offended.
That's all for now.
Ajay
I am not a medic however I can do CPR, pressure on wounds, treat injuries (as most people can). lets hope that nothing happens this year. I normally keep rubber gloves in the trunk of my bike and a few odds and ends just in case. lets keep rubber side down and all in tact.
yea i think on the way back a few of us around NH, Lowell, Dracut, will prob end up riding together home. hopefully no one pops wheelies :beerbang:
on another note, for those of us coming and from the north we should meet somewhere in Lowell and hit up route 3 before we head off to framingham.
Let's hope for some good weather!
So Ray,
I just came to a slight realization and I want to present it to you. You are planning to have us all meet on 135 in Framingham. Why exactly?
I ask because I work not to far from there. My thoughts are this. We are going to have a fairly good size group of motorcycles. We are then going to have to ALL get out of McDee's and roll from there to the highway through Framingham traffic (both 135 & 9) and several lights. Problem I see is all the lights are going to do a good job of breaking up the group and slowing us down.
Is there somewhere closer to the highway you can think of that would be a good place to meet?
No wheelies for this kid... there is a time and place. i am game to meet up wherever. I have a GPS mounted on the bike now.:shredder: It will also be fun to roll down there with a group. So we going to meet at UML? Or... The people going straight 93 are we going to meet elsewhere. Going to Lowell is a little out of the way and I would prefer to roll down 93 but if there are not enough takers I will meet at UML.
I second that.. I have no idea what Framingham McD's are like but that's a hell of a lot of bikes to meet at a McDs where I live. I do not think the parking lots would even hold us all. Is there a big parking lot somewhere (Home depot etc) close to where we are all going to roll close to the exit?
i would roll down 93 as well but it seems that VTECLOL is also planning on meeting up at UML so i figure this could be the north's meeting spot.
Ok works for me... UML it is for the North. Also if you guys have not noticed this forum has been my Monday lifeblood in a full day of non stop work. I cannot wait for the nice weather to get out and ride.
keeping my eye on this thread/ride since you'll be in my neck of the woods but...
heads up that i believe Mt. Wachusett Admin/summit road will be closed this season for construction and paving. last i heard from the locals, the summit road will not open at all. if i can find any info that confirms that i'll post for you.
EDIT: yeah, found the info... summit road won't be open again until Sept 2011 :(
"August 13, 2009: Motorists wanting to enjoy the views of central Massachusetts and Boston from the top of Wachusett Mountain should plan to drive to the summit before the road closes this fall. Once closed, it won't reopen until September of 2011."
OK... first order of business... The meet up location has changed to Lakeside Shell, it is RIGHT off 495 and is a gas station. Here is the address : 413 Lakeside Avenue, Marlborough, MA- (508) 481-6066. It has a descent sized parking lot and has food all around the area in case you want to grab a bite before the ride. PLEASE dont be late. A friendly reminder that we are meeting @ 10AM and riding out at 1045. Please shoot me a call or text if your going to be late. We will be there a little early to fuel up and meet up with early birds. As far as the wachusette road, we will just avoid it when we get there and just head out from there. The NH riders can roll out when we get to the end of mohawk trail. The CT riders can ride with us until we get to wachusett area bc thats as far south as we are going. If anyone wants to join us for a wind-down snack after the ride then do so. Please give me a call viz cell @ 508-762-7875 if you have any questions or via PM.
thank you
