    Chuck/James:

Sounds good. I was thinking early evening anyway, maybe for an hour or two. I haven't been out all weekend so anything would be good. Chuck, I PM'd James about a couple guys who might want to get together later on (weather permitting) today as well.

Early evening's no good for me. I haven't spent much time with my wife this weekend and I can tell she's not happy about it.

I was planning on bring home for 6, so I'd have to start riding between 1:00 and 2:00.

    James, Kurt, and Mark...

Sorry about the stop sign at the end of the left-hander. I didn't see it until I was on top of it.

Scared a bit with that one. I braked enough to see if it was clear to get through but also enough to stop if I had to.

Stupid thing is that they didn't have a warning sign before the stop sign at the end of a blind curve.

But, they had them at just about every other stop sign.

I was wondering when someone was going to mention that. I had a nice entry into that corner with some speed, I had one eye on chuck, who was comming out of that corner...(Blowing the stop sign...ha) and my other eye on James. I didn't realize their was a stop sign until I almost rear ended James. At first I was wondering why he was stopping then I noticed the sign as well. O-well, we all make a mistake every now and again, as long as no one lays down it's all good. I made a mistake and blew a turn going down that first set of twisties (forget the name of the road, I think it was the 2nd or 3rd strong left hander. Had to break hard and just missed the shoulder of the road) while James was leading. I should of hung back behind everyone too familarize myself with the road a bit but instead I tried keeping up with James. I think kurt was scared for me because I was tight on the double lines, even crossing over a couple times on some sharp left handers. I've gotta break myself of going in real tight on those, I'm probably going to get whacked by a car one of these days. Or, I could take James suggestion and take the Duck out to the track...which I'm seriously considering. All in all I had fun though and want to thank you guys. It was nice meeting you and look forward to our next ride. It's nice to know there's people close by who enjoy riding as much as I do.

On another note, and I might be opening a can of worms with this question...but.............What's the consensus on wheelies on these rides? No one pulled it up today , which is fine, but I like to throw it up every now and then and really don't want to offend or piss anyone off. I have read the "Rules" thread, but is that up to date? Just curious. I don't do wheelies to look cool, though I'll admit I've wheelied more than a few times at the request of passer-byes. I just really like doing them.

    Thoughts?

It's also kinda ironic that I almost reaended James in that corner and I always leave tons of room between me and the guy in front of me.....sometimes it seems too much room.If I was tighter on him I probably would have smacked em.

I think I saw you come close to blipping one up at one point.

My take on it is this . . . if you KNOW how to do them (and I don't, so I don't think I'd try) and the ride is casual and not at a screaming pace, I wouldn't get upset at one or two. But not at every stop.

Also, the person doing it should be far from any other rider.

Agreed, I don't have a need to do them every 5 minutes just every now and then.

Moosehill is the name of the road. Its short but fun. I thought I told you a little about it before we hit it. Im happy it was dry. When its wet it can be real slick and a mistake youll end up in the woods. I probably shoud have taken it a bit slower with it being your first time but I guess I got caught in the moment. Seriously if you feel youre riding beyond your ability just slow down a bit. We might poke a little fun but its all in fun. I like ball busting but I can take it just as well as I can dish it out. Id rather you go slower then have me come back to pick your bike up for you.

As for the track. Definately do it. Its so much fun. My next day should be sept 18th and 19th provided I can get the days off if I get the new job. If I dont get the new job Ill be there for sure as I already have the days from my old one.

Wheelies. Well first off I suck at them so I dont even try. I like both wheels on the ground. If you feel the need then fine. If I get a ticket because of it or someone gets hurt Im going to be 5'6 ball of irish fury. I can get over a ticket after a while but not someone getting hurt. I kind of pride myself with the fact that all the rides I have lead no one has gone down and there have been zero tickets. Id like to keep it like that.

The next ride with the group is next Sunday. There will be a few more people for you to meet and Im sure a bunch of them will want to get a good look at your bike. Im still on the fence about it. I want to go but the cape is a nightmare from now until Labor day.

No one's gonna want to look at my bike if you keep calling it a "BUCKET OF BOLTS". HAHaha. That was a good line...(from the other "Ducati stalling" thread). I think I posted last week that the 1098 sucks in Traffic, Heat, and anything under 35 MPH. Everyone laughed at me and my little pitty party but I wasn't kidding! I'm so used to the smoothness of the Inline 4's. The 1098 is tough to drive if your not at speed. She's a tempermental little bitch but she's my bitch!

Now why don't you pull the tampon out from under your legs and suit up next Sunday.

Totally got you on the "ride at your level" thing. You know how that is................it's about restraint I guess.

Its the dry clutch sound that gives it the bucket of rattling bolts sound. Its a Ducati thing. I bet my bike run just as hot or hotter then yours. Side mount radiators are a bitch. I was getting up to 221 today. At that point my fans would kick in and drop it to 215ish.

Ill have to see what happens with work next Saturday to if I can make it on Sunday. Sometimes we get screwed over and have to work Saturday night.

For riding at your level. Its ok to push but not to the point where its dangerous imo. Everyone is responsible for their riding. Ill toss you a link of me where I tried to keep up to a very good rider on these boards on the track. At least it was on the track where it didnt bite me. I just went a little wide.

I was mostly near 205 degrees during the around town stuff and then cooled of to 180's. I have that underseat exhaust which gets pretty hot. I'm hoping my carbon Fiber Termignoni's will help with the heat.....once I find a bank to rob so I can actually afford them...........

wheelies are of your own discretion, your 35 so i think you know the time and place to do em.

i think the sound of the twins doing a power wheelie is odd, but kind of neat though. some one pulled one up on a twin infront of me at the end of a group ride and it was a bit fun to watch because it was a good enough time and place

Common sense will dictate when to do a wheelie. In a town center or residential area = NO! Open stretch of road away from other riders, cops, etc., where you will not attract negative attention = sure. But that's just how I feel.

    Wheelies on Group Rides???

    Naked,

Stunting on group rides is a somewhat controversial topic as I discovered...

Have a quick look at my initial intro to this board and you'll see what I mean.

    http://www.nestreetriders.com/forum/...79-my-bad.html

Aside from the responses where I was understandably 'flamed', here are a couple of notable responses.

I can't even remember the last time someone did a stand up wheelie on a group ride w/o getting at least one stern talking to... nevermind on an internet message board.
Most of us are also very picky with who we ride with. I regularly go on group rides that aren't even posted up on the boards. As for the rides that are posted, we go over what kind of ride it will be and stick to it. If we say it's gonna be an easy ride, it's an easy ride. If we say it's gonna be a quick ride, it's a quick ride. There's never any "stunt" rides.

So, here is my more reasoned opinion.

I would hope that those folks with the skill would get stunts out of their system on their own...or with a couple of their buddies. But not on a group ride posted on this board.

On group rides of more than 3 or 4 if one gal pops a wheelie then for sure some other guy will feel obligated to show their stuff and the next thing you know you have a testosterone fest. This board is New England Street Rider...not New England Stunt Rider!

I really like the idea of posting the 'type of ride' that the leader has in mind as suggested by Oreo. If I saw a ride posted as 'Young folks testing the envelope' I could simply take a pass and wait for someone to post up a ride for 'Fast Old Guys' spirited sport ride!

I think wheelies are cool. I wish I had the balls to try and hold one for more than 2 seconds. But I get really unhappy with stunting on group rides of more than 3 or 4 folks.

...thats just me. I could be wrong....

    Dave

As far as the whole stunt things goes, there is no room for it on group rides and I was a bit annoyed with the folks who where doing them, the other day.

The only solice I can feel is that they were semi away from the rest of us except for the stoppie that was pulled.

Folks have to understand that when in a group doing stunts puts more than yourself at risk when in a group! Done!
