I am still planning on doing this.

It's an hour and a half from Rochester (at the intersection of 125 & 16). I'll be slabbing 16 the whole way up due to the time of day.

I'll be leaving my house at 2am sharp, and the Shell Station at the intersection of 125 & 27 in Epping at 2:10 Sharp.

For anyone who doesn't want to slab to NH at that hour, I have some room to put people up for a few hours of shut-eye before we leave.

If anyone needs more info on my trip up there, PM me for my phone and e-mail.

    ...and now for the killjoy....

Mid-range forecasts are calling for Hurricane Danny to come onshore on/around Cape Cod and head north Saturday night.

I'll be watching forecasts carefully and make a decision Late friday/early saturday. :-(

yea sure as hell seems like there going to close mt washington that entire weekend. Supposed to make landfall as a category 1 hurricane. Now could be possible that it changes its path? Yes but very unlikely.

Yeah... It's not looking good.. I checked a few sources, and even if it passes off shore, we'd be faced with tropical storm force winds and rain. Doesn't really matter what it lands at... I'm not riding in tropical rains at 2am LOL!!!

It IS New England, however, so I'll make my decision on Friday evening based on the forecast info. I normally would wait till Saturday, but given the time of departure and the amount of people 'pending' this trip, its fair to call it a bit early.

    Keep your fingers crossed everyone.

Well i think the CT contingent is out
    Mountain Forecast calls for
    Its going to be wet
its going to be cold (In 40's)
    Its going to be windy
Does not look like it will be bad enough to close the mountain but ..
4 hour ride up to NH in the rain on Sat (70 % chance of rain sometimes heavy the entire area from CT to NH)
Set up camp in the wet
Get up at the asscrack of dawn to catch a sunrise while wet & cold... and put on wet cold leathers
then to ride a nasty piece of road in the wet cold and dark..
Miss out on a sunrise because of the cloudcover and rain

I am just not seeing any upside to this one

It's definatley not looking good right now. I'm still gonna wait till tomorrow to make my call (I've lived around here long enough to see ocean storms take both very favorable and unfavorable turns).

The rainy side of the storm is the west side which means we'd be dealing with cool/wet roads and the NH/MA guys would likely have to ride up in rain... bit too dangerous for my liking at 3am. Im not sure they will 'close' the auto road, but i'm also not sure I want to be up there on a bike totally exposed with crosswinds at that level and a hurricane 60 miles east.

    :-(

Sadly I think our shortened summer is coming to a quick close

Re: Sunday August 30th, Mt Washington

Clearly, conditions are not going to be favorable for a 100+ mile ride in bands of tropical downpours. I'm gonna have to say Im out.. just can't see it being safe/enjoyable with such unstable conditions.

In lieu of the ride, several friends (on and off the forum) have inquired about a Hurricane Party night. Keeping this thread on topic, I'll only say PM me for info if you're in the area and no longer doing this ride.
