Superhero - Stay with them and the bike and end my day
Concerned - Check on them and stay until help arrives
Unaffected - Once they're walking, I'm gone
Bemused - Giggle as I ride by and then leave
Naked - Beet is
It's going to happen, probably more than once this season.
You're on a group ride, but not the leader/organizer. Somebody you don't know is riding over their limit and crashes. This rider showed up alone. They are banged up, perhaps with some road rash, and their bike is not rideable.
This is not an emergency medical situation.
What do you think your responsibilities are?
What have you done in the past?
actually, been there - big group ride, one guy decided to endo on Memorial drive, flipped, got run over by the guy behind him. Whole group stopped to make sure he was ok - that kind of ruined it for me I went home - no point pushing fate.
"Responsibilities" seems like a strong word, I'd say more than that I'd feel like I have an obligation as a fellow rider to stop and help/assist/wait. Essentially I'm saying "I don't feel responsible for this rider, but I do feel obligated to help him." There's a distinction, but the end result is the same; you stop and help.
Never had it happen in the past, so luckily I've never had to deal with this particular situation (*knocks on wood*).
Happened twice to me. Riding sweeper first time, one of my best friends in front of me goes down hard into a guardrail on Memorial drive as well. Everybody else was long gone. Stayed with him, called the ambulance, followed him in the ambulance to the hospital. They let me in the ICU, said I could only stay for 10 minutes, stayed for 3 hours, til they kicked me out. He was surprisingly OK, had internal bleeding, but was awake the whole time, joking with the doctors and nurses. Made me call his parents at like 3am though...bastard.
Second time, riding mid pack in a group on the Kanc. Came around the "hairpin" to a guy on the ground. Everybody stopped. Had a broken arm, nearest hospital was in Plymouth NH. I was the only guy with pass pegs and a seat. I had to double him to Plymouth from the Kanc and drop him at the hospital. Whole group went though.
I stop and help.

I've never been on a group ride but I would stop and help. Even if he/she was a tool.
I stop at any accident I see and wait for emergency services. If it's a friend I go to the hospital.
My group rides tend to consist of friends so...

And its not a medical emergency.Somebody you don't know is riding over their limit and crashes.
Make sure he's OK. Offer to call a tow service and/or a cab. Ask around locally to see if he can leave his bike at someones house.
It's all I would expect from the group. And I certainly wouldnt want my bad to ruin of short a ride for anyone else...

Was riding with a fellow NESRian and the other rider got a flat up in Blue Hills. Ended up staying with the rider until the tow truck came, and then followed back to riders house since it was close by.
If you decide to be on a group ride you sure as shit better stop and help. Not saying you have to end your ride, but should help out.
I have been on 2 different rides where someone bit it. First time we all stopped (about 8 of us) and got the bike to a near by house and I brought the rider back 2up to his house. The second we all stopped (about 15 of us) and pulled the bike up probably 20' up a 45 slope. Which was a pain in the ass since only about 4 of us could man handle it. We all waited for medical and a tow.
Both riders I barely knew. The second guy was a bit of a tool crashing 3 times and totaling 2 bikes all in the same summer. But we all stopped and helped because it's the right thing to do. If your of the mentality to just keep riding please post that in the ride thread before you attend so I can miss that ride![]()

So because someone crashes they are now labeled a "tool?"

No, not at all. Notice I didn't call the first guy I spoke of a tool. The crash was due to a number of factors but ultimately it was his fault. Shit happens.
BUT, if you pass someone in a pack of riders all traveling about the same speed and then get scared mid corner stand it up and total your first bike with about 3k on the clock only minutes after you just passed someone "to slow" then yeah that's sort of toolish. To get the money from the first totaled bike buy the same bike. Not take any courses to improve your skills. Then set out on another group ride (and most likely ride over your head) and wad it up...well things point more towards you being a tool. Then to leave that crash to head home on a fucked up bike and crash again!?!?! What would you call it?

I would personally stop and help any rider, weather they were with me or not. I don't wave to Harley guys though!

I bit one last year and the guy i was riding with (stiggy) literally helped me pull the bike out of the muddy ditch, road back to his house, then he helped me load the thing in the back of my dads truck. I think that was my second time riding with him and we had planned the ride through here...
I do what i feel comfortable with, i had a friend die on a group ride aswell last year, spent the rest of the day in the hospital after the crash awaiting the news. I honestly couldnt go about my day like nothing happened. He wasnt being a "tool wad" while driving tho...

I stopped once to help a hardley rider who looked like he had just had a slow lowside. No gear on what so ever, had some rash and he was trying to pick his bike up in the middle of the road. He chewed my head off for stopping and asking if he was ok or needed help.
I'll help anyone I can... if I see someone alone or with one other person and down I'll stop and see if theres anything I can do (go find help, whatever). If there's more ppl than that I figure there isn't anything I can do to help the situation.
If its a group ride I'm on of course I'll stop with everyone else and help get everything sorted. Doesn't necessarily mean the ride is over.
2 yrs ago my friend got hit by a car in front of me. Bike got literally run over but luckily friend was thrown over hood. I called ambulance (I think several people did) stayed with him, talked to him to calm him down. When ambulance arrived and started loading him in I got information on which hospital. Gave the police officer all the information as to what happened since I was a witness. Helped fire department get bike out from under car. And found out from tow company where bike was being towed to. I was on an adrenaline high and my mind was going a million miles. I ran home got car just in case friend was discharged from hospital and needed ride. Got to hospital and they let me in right to him. While he was being x-rayed I called his family and told them all the info. As soon as they got there and I knew he was going to be okay I called it a day and went home. Even if I didn't know the person I would do what I could to help. I don't care what they did to get in that situation. I would hate to have the shoe on the other foot and me being the one in need and have no one there for me.

While out on a ride a few years ago, I came across someone who had an electrical failure with their bike and was trying to push it for a left turn off of rt140 near Foxboro. I roadguarded for him so he could get across. Prior to my coming, no one wanted to let him cross.
This thread just ooozes with holier-than-thou.
