I was in the race 3 crash in 1st corner, #241 black leathers with red helmet - hoping some one has pics. apparently I was run over, mild concussion, broken ribs and sore as hell.
Thanks Chris
ahh damn man, thats rough. heal up eh?
Damn and i was just outside of T1 taking pics of race 1 and 2... would have been in that race but someone (627) didnt want to sign up with me... I missed the whole accident.
Tipping into t1 a bike went down in front of me in a real tight pack, I stood up and hard on breaks to avoid running into him. my rear came around from getting a little push and thats all I remember. I was apparently run over. I received a pm from him wishing me well, I told him its racing and crap happens. yes I was knocked out for a few, I'm back and forth to ER last couple days and my own doc today for a lung that cant decide to deflate or inflate. Oh - I wear a Knox chest protector and you should too! I'm convinced it helped.
I've retied from racing. my live in girlfriend Kelley picked the wrong week end to come with me, I had a slow low side in T3 Saturday making an outside pass (no damage or injury but she was right there on bleachers) and then she saw me on the ground Sunday. (amazingly the bike barely get a scratch in both..) I'm 44 years old, I hit the T12 wall just past air fence last year almost to date breaking my leg and now she's giving me a choice and racing loses out.
What I do not have in natural ability or experience I (almost) make up for with a lack of fear. Thats not good for any of us! I'll sell the bike, trailer and gear this fall or spring and will have to find something thats remotely close to the feeling.. any ideas??
and if anyone knows Zsolt Rolinek #167 (a BORN guy) on a motard, what a great guy. I met him that morning set up next to me and when we got back he had EVERYTHING packed up and organized in my trailer. A huge thanks to him. I'll be up in Oct to at least buy the guy lunch.
sucks to hear you're gunna retire man... but its understandable.
Why not stick to trackdays? Same idea, just without the pressure to ride over your head y'know? Or pick up an MX bike... lots of fun on trails or MX trackdays. Keeps me entertained for now at least.

No surprise Kelley is dead set against even trackdays. If it doesnt sell for a reasonable amount I'll keep it for track days next year with the hope she cools down, tuff to completely walk away. I've never been much of a mx guy though.
No but thats Larry Graffam on #387, if anyone knows how to reach him plz send him the link
I saw my doc today and looks like I'm heading towards a chest tube if 2 more xrays by Fri do not come up clear. air is leaking into chest cavity

Sorry to hear about your injury. Heal up fast.
As far as track days go, bring your GF up to one and have her see how different they are from racing.
Jesus Chris... you've had some tough luck. Sorry to hear you're packing it in but I can understand...
You can definitely fool the wife into track days![]()

damn man, sorry to hear about the bad times...same thing happened to a buddy I took dirtjumping one time with fluid in his chest. Got in alittle over his head and ended up piledriving himself into a jump face and had to have a tube stuck through his ribs to drain shit out...not fun.
best of luck on quick recovery dude

I was the rider who went down first. Im not sure what I did to upset the bike, but just as we tipped in the front end started skipping/oscillating, and just gave out from underneath me. I had slowed to go around somebody who pulled in front of me and right after I had gone around them, it happened. If I could tell you what exactly happened, I would, but that was something I had never felt the bike do before. Didnt feel like a tankslapper. All I could think of while it was happening was WTF is wrong with my front end. All of a sudden the bike spit out from underneath me and I was sliding with 30+ riders behind me. One of the scariest moments of my life.
Anyways Chris, I hope you dont give it up altogether, and wish you a speedy recovery. Maybe you can convince her to let you do trackdays after shes cooled down a bit. She seemed really nice so your decision is understandable. I was expecting her to punch me in the face when I went to check up on you, but she even asked me if I was ok. I know if I was in your situation my GF would have the fist clenched! So heal up and im sorry this happened like this.

I wasnt placing blame on you. I didnt see the crash. Everyone has a bad day out there. Ive had my share. When you bump up youll see what Im talking about. I have yet to have someone put a questional pass on me in practice. In novice I had guys on 1000s stuffing me in 3 only to hold me up in the entire back half of the track.Originally Posted by strgt
