Are you on the balls of your feet? cant tell quite with those boots where your foot is but it looks like yout feet might be forward a bit, that could make getting off the side a bit less comfortable for ya..
Yeah, I'm on the balls of the feet. Depending on the turn and if I feel like I have time to set up after braking sometimes I'll be a bit farther forward on them, 6 is probably as far back as they ever get because I go from braking to pitching the bike in without time between to reposition the foot. In the other turns where I'm not using the rear brake it's easier to be a bit farther forward on the foot.
BOOOOOOOM!!!! That just happened!

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
1) I think the first 3 pics are 6. I'm not 100% sure, to be honest.
2) When I finally brake for that turn, I want to check it up as much as possible. Getting a better drive out of 3/4 than I was, using a downshift locked up my rear wheel, which I didn't like, so I toyed with a quick dab at the rear brake over the weekend coming in.
Are you downshifting with the clutch? If so a small blip of the throttle to match yout rpm will cure that.
If your not using the clutch to downshift i would start. Not using it can realy be a shock to the hampster that powers that beast. I heard it can knock him right off the running wheel.
Yeah, I use the clutch and blip the throttle. Problem is I'm past redline once I downshift now that I'm getting a better drive out of 3/4. Rear brake didn't really work for me either, what I ended up doing was letting the engine wind down a bit while I'm on the front brake before the downshift, which works. Problem is I'm turned pretty good by then for the downshift so if I miss the throttle blip and lock the rear it could go poorly in a hurry. I figure the solution is don't fuck up the throttle blip.
I'll have new gearing for next weekend so it doesn't matter much anymore anyway.

Don't close the throttle completely when making the downshift, just that change alone will make a huge improvement in how smoothly it goes.
I don't see any huge problem with your body position. You look a little tense, but otherwise in the ballpark. Just friggin ride. You will learn how to go faster using less lean angle as you go. Quick turn in and immediate throttle roll on will do it. Any hesitation to roll on will load up your suspension and have you draggin hard parts, delaying throttle application, causing more contact with the deck.
WHACK IT WIDE OPEN. It's an EX, it ain't goin anywhere.
Thanks guys. I'll do that then![]()
Any updates on this Dangerous? Did you ride this weekend?
I did the Fishtail School a couple weeks ago (first time ever on the track), and I went this weekend and did the Penguin School / Rookie Race and got my license.
Can't wait to get back out there! but as you can tell, among 100 other things, I need to work on body positioning as well! I think I just need to make a conscious effort to keep my head over the inside triple, I'm usually concentrating on so many other things that I kinda forget positioning and just go with what feels comfortable.
Alot of good tips in this thread...thanks guys.
Edit: Tried inserting images by linking to ImageShack... not working? Added them as attachments, but if somebody can edit the post so they show up in the thread go for it!

Yeah, I rode this weekend. I crashed out of the lead in ptwin Saturday, just ran laps in GTL and won LWSM Sunday. Lots more details in my RR. I think I improved my positioning some, still some work to do but I am fairly sure I got a bit better. I definitely improved in some specific spots. I'll post up again when pics from the weekend start surfacing.
Thanks to all that offered help in this thread, and a special help to Dan (legalspeed) for sitting down w/ me over the weekend and helping me out.
Cool...
I'll check out the RR
