I have started on the 2002 F4i I bought last week. I am stripping it down to thoroughly check it out and rebuild it from the ground up.
Here's a coupla pics:
.
I paid $2800 for the bike. I was on the road for 3 months before it was crashed. I need a new flywheel cover, new subframe. I have already ordered bodywork and a guage cluster/front fairing mount. I need to get that piece on the steering head welded up. I cut this piece off the subframe (it's the passenger peg bracket mount) and I will make myself two swingarm spool stand mounts out of it. More pics and info as the project moves along. Does anyone know how to work on the electrical system to make it a total loss ignition?
Degs
Do you know how it was crashed? The damage looked weird in your previous pics. Like maybe a looped wheelie or stoppie.
Good luck,
Ben
Correct, it was a looped wheelie.

Is that an Ohilins shock I see???

Gerard
Nope, it's a stock shock actually. Soon to be replaced with an Ohlins.

Very Nice Degsy!! as if you weren't fast enough last season on a regular F4.![]()

Geeez....I got some time off...when, where, what time?
Total loss is way cool...just gotta remember to put a batery charger in your tool box....
Total loss on the other hand may not work too well for endurance racing.....Just a note....
Too old to rock and roll, too young to die.
Degs, in addition to the cost of the bike, what do you think your looking at for $$$$$$ to get it track worthy?

Rye, by the time I finish with the bike, I will have put probably another $3000-$4000 into it. It will be for Superbike racing only. It WON'T be supersport legal.

Nice, I love watching the 600's dice it up with the bigger cube's. And judging by currnet lap times, 600's are coming close to the thrown!

NHIS is such a tight track it hard for us on the bigger displacement bikes to really utilize all of the potential. It is quite a bit of fun on the main straight though. Drawing the smaller displacement machines in like a vacuum... only to be passed again in turn 1.

I have always felt that a well ridden 600 will keep pace with the big bikes.. Too bad I have a small pee pee and need to make up for it with displacement.
Degs what else are you looking at for work to get it track ready??
'04 600RR
Forks revalved and resprung, Ohlins shock from old race bike switched over, new guages fitted, conversion to total loss ignition, 520 chain conversion, lightweight wheels, Rearsets, clipons, bodywork (and paint), hindle headers, yoshimura or HRC cams, maybe some other motor work, welding of steering head and spool holders, magneto cover needs replacing, removal of ignition key assembly so the ignition is switched on from the kill switch, drill all nuts and bolts for safety wire, PCIII, Race air filter, race tires (slicks), drain coolant & test radiator and refill with water/water wetter, lap timer, the list goes on and on.
Degs
Degsy, Did you end up selling the old race bike and RC-51?
If not I would like to know how you convinced the wife to letting you buy this new race bike before the wedding. Maybe you can write a book for us other men who can't take a piss without the wife asking us what we are doing.
If this is a superbike only what about Ohlin's up front, Carbon fiber gas tank, ect. (it's only money right).
Are you going to be doing any track days before the wedding? If so let me know I would love to try and follow you when you get that baby done.
Degs how much stuff are you going to be able to swap over from the old bike, if you still have it?
'04 600RR
Kip, I could tell you how I do it, but then I would have to shoot you and anyone you told about it unfortunately:-))
I explained to Beth that winter is the time to buy and summer is the time to sell, so the RC and the racebike are up for sale now but at relatively high prices as I don't NEED to sell them right now. They will fetch more in the summer.
I can switch over the Ohlins shock (I think) and the 520 chain conversion, but that it about it.
Degsy
Degsy, I think we might have a lot in common. I told Becky (wife) I needed a track bike so I wouldn't crach the RC-51 again, and if I'm going to buy it has to be at the end of the season to get a good deal. They do say smart men think alike.
Let me know about the tire warmers when you hear something back.
Lastly, if I was to race lets say on just a Saturday how many races could I enter on my ZX-6R?
On saturday you could run
Heavyweight SS
Middleweight SS
Middleweight Superbike
On sunday:
GTO
GTU
Heavyweight SB
Middleweight GP
Degsy
I finished making my swingarm spool holders. Just need to weld them on now. Here's a picture.
Nice job, when are you going to start selling this things under the NESR name?
Right now, I happen to have a second set that I made up at the same time. You want to buy them? $30 to you '01 RC51 spool challenged people.
