Mladin..............
I won't say what I think about him because he would most likely sue me.
yeah, he is being a total ass. There was post qualifying quotes as well where he said "yeah, the race will be short, I have a 6pm flight home, so I hope I can make that"

while he may be right about some things regarding the series, he is going about it the wrong way. i dont like the guy at all and would be happy if he left the series but... he's always been very vocal about the safety, track improvments, etc and i think a lot of times he feels like he is fighting an up hill battle because a lot of things don't change and now he is just giving up and saying everything sucks.
i haven't read the comments yet as i haven't seen the superbike race and i'm avoiding soup etc so i may be missing a lot of what he has said.
i do know there is an article on soup where spies has some words about the series though.

It's not as bad as the old school guys are making it out to be. Lot of bellyaching from the older riders and crews but it's just sour grapes. Some behind the scenes stuff admittedly has been sketch this weekend but considering the horrible offseason AMA Lro Racing had to deal with I've been overall surprised.
The racing was actually exciting in Superbike and in Sportbike the laptomes are superclose. So far, the on track action IS better.
Boston --> San Diego
If I was walking away with championships and they changed the rules so it wouldn't be so easy I'd be irritated too.
but thats not what champions should do.

SPOILER
Q Mat, a closer Superbike race than we've had in a while. On the surface, it looks like the new format, new rules, made it that way. Is that the case?
MLADIN: [Deadpan] That's what it was, Dave. [Pause] Absolutely. I think everyone tried, but Ben and I had a machine advantage and that's how we won so much. [Scattered laughter] We won the race. Does it matter if you win by a second or by ten seconds?
MODERATOR: That was the 73rd overall win in AMA Pro Nationals for Mat Mladin.
MLADIN: So I've probably proven myself by now.
.............
Q Forgive me. I'm not up to speed on why you're wounded. You look like you're really exhausted at the end of the race, Mat. Could you go into what Mr. Pegram referred to earlier as being "wounded?" You really looked very tired at the end of the race. Did you put out everything you had?
MLADIN: Yeah, no, we - listen, we've got a couple issues, but other than that, as I said, we won the race, and that's all that matters.
Q What was it on the start line with the Pegram bike?
MLADIN: All of a sudden people have got generators on the start line of a race, powering tire warmers. It's just I've never seen that before, and it's not part of the rules. So I said something.
Q Beyond tire warmers, how does the Ducati look to you guys? Does it look like they have a bike that'll be competitive at all the races?
MLADIN: Seems that way. Looks like it's pretty speedy.
Six-time AMA Superbike champion Mat Mladin stopped early, but he was still the fastest man in Wednesday's afternoon practice for the Daytona Superbike race.
"1:38.5? That's it? Ben and I raced in the low '36s last year," said Mladin when he was told he was quickest.
Mladin hasn't done much winter testing but moved to the top of the charts on Friday. "Including today, I think I have done 35 laps since the last race at Laguna," said Mladin. "It's been good as well. There's been so much stuff going on. Literally, for two months I just completely tuned out and said to the team, 'don't bother ringing me unless you have something.' After two or three months, I was sure there wasn't much going on."
Although Mat holds pretty much every AMA Superbike record and is largely the public face of AMA Superbike, Mladin gave a 'no comment' when asked what he thought about the specification of the 2009 American Superbikes.
Is he happy to be in Daytona? "Of course I am happy to be here. I have an obligation to Suzuki and this is the last year of my contract. And if I show up, I show up to race. Would I be happier doing it a different way? Absolutely, 100%. But we have to keep perspective in life and there are a lot of people who have it tougher than we, just because we don't like the rules of the motorcycle race. We're lucky to be here and we're lucky to be racing. That doesn't mean we have to think (the rules) are right."
"Again, I am not overly excited about the type of motorbikes we have to race," said Mladin. "This is the American Superbike championship. While right now people are in a bit of economic turmoil and finances are tough at the moment, we should be racing top of the line motorbikes in America. This is the world's biggest motorcycle market and we're racing streetbikes - somewhat glorified streetbikes. If the manufacturers are willing to spend 10 to 15 million dollars a year to go racing, then let them have top of the line equipment. Is this going to make the racing any closer? I guess we'll see in six months, won't we?"
before i read that, is it going to spoil the race?

Mladin has always whined more than any winner I've known. I think a lot of it now is because he's acting as Suzuki's unofficial PR spokesman.
He complains about the lower spec of the bikes, but at one point DMG was aiming for WSBK specs and backed off because of complaints from....Suzuki, among others. They refused to help rescue AMA roadracing, and have been whining about the people that actually put up the money to do it ever since.
Spies should shut up about the AMA, realize how lucky he is to have a shot at WSBK, and realize he's sounding too much like Mat.
