Okay so I decided to take a cue from Dangerous Dan K and post up a thread about what I'm doing wrong. I promise to keep it under a thousand different threads however. All kidding aside I need some advice on what I'm doing wrong.
I felt pretty good during the novice P-Twins race. I think I lead it for about 3 laps then Don Smith(#557) passed me just after T12. Soon after I crashed on the 4th lap in Turn 6. Clearly I lowside in the video but it looks like I'm not getting on the gas soon enough and the suspension is bottoming out? Too much bar input perhaps. Could also just be that I was dehydrated and tired and had poor form. I'm sure it's probably a combination of things that caused the crash.
I noticed the right fork has been weeping oil and I bought new seals which will be installed before the next race weekend. Also, the original stock rear shock I'm sure is toast, as I bottom out really hard in T10 no matter how much I get off the bike and on the gas. It compresses really easily, too, just pushing on it.
Is there anything from the video the jumps out as a glaring issue that I'm doing wrong? Any input is greatly appreciated.
Washed the front. Hard to tell exactly what caused it. Everything appeared to be smooth from what I could see.
Could be, but that's a pretty tough call going on the footage alone.
Could have also been fully compressed suspension, again, a tough call to make.
Excessive inputs to the brakes?
Who knows?
a little to early on the initial turn in and then a need for more bar input??
Wasn't your turn in WAY to early?

I think it is a combination of:
-Too much bar imput
-Too much weight on the bars
-Suspension bottoming out because you're not on the gas soon enough.
Can't say why you crashed... but you need to turn in later & more aggressively.... a lazy turn-in like that means you're gonna have to use more lean angle to complete the turn.
At the point where the bike went down, you still had a lot of turning left to do.... it's quite possible that you were correcting for that w/ another steering input.

Your peg scraped and musta been bad enough to low side the bike.

9 times out of 10, that's simply a matter of too much bar input after you've started to lean.
If you don't bottom out and lever the rear tire off the ground, a bike will almost always "fix" itself... unless you don't let it.
sounds like you dragged something just before losing the front. the scraping noise definitely appears before you chrash

I need to get some more track time. Seven laps a weekend plus morning practice if I'm lucky isn't going to cut it. Hopefully I can work on some things on the 31st. It was probably too much bar input. I don't think I was on the brakes at that point and I know I didn't scrape the peg. I think I came in hotter than I was comfortable with in trying to catch Don and that's why I wasn't turning in...I was still trying to shed speed. It seems like when I get faster in one section of the track it screws me up for another part.
I know what you mean. The video does sound like that but I wonder if that's just the bottom of the left fork hitting first before the exhaust canister. There is a nice scuff mark on the fork where the paint has been scrapped away. All just speculation but I think the fork would be the first thing to hit if you washed the front.
You going to the LAPS day?
I'll be there on the EX (if it doesn't rain). We'll follow each other around.

I'm no expert but to me it seems like you threw it into the dirt where you actually want to go on that paved part to the left. Try something different next time, it may help.
Sorry to hear bout the get off and hope you're doing all right man.

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
Hey Punji totally off topic but do you go to MMA? I swear I have talked to you before. You have an odd sn so I can't imagine it would be anyone else.

It looks to me like what Pete said. You turn too early, too little. Turn harder, later. Brake brake brake brake, TURN gas gas gas.
