Alright, so clearly my plan above that was for a MW didn't work out, and I had to rethink my return. I don't think it's a great idea money-wise, but I just can't stop thinking about it. I considered an R6 and a motard, but those are both pricey (tires or blown motors and maintenance).
So I think I'd like to try my hand at an SV. Reliable and cheap, lots of parts, etc. I think I'd like to go for a supersport bike as it can be raced in more classes and is more reliable and cheaper. Anyone know of a good, well-set-up, SV for sale by someone who does things right?

Have you considered something else? Like dirt racing? It's lower cost than road racing.
I've asked for details on it. Would want to know what it's got. And obvs would need to paint it.
I def wouldn't race dirt, too many broken bones.
I considered grabbing a cheap woods bike and just putting around in the woods for the rest of the year (free) and then maybe returning next season. I'm still considering that option.
Its not just getting a bike, I need xponder, warmers, helmet, race license, fees, garage, etc... Not a cheap endeavor any way you slice it. If I do it now it will be in hopes that some other things change for me soon, which I think/hope they will. A reasonable risk to take based on how much I miss the track.

A netra scramble is $45 for 1.5hrs (2hrs if you can finagle a bump) of racing. All woods.
A netra enduro is $45 for 4-6 HOURS of time keeping mixed with woodsy racing.
A plated woods bike can be had for $2000. (See oxx's fs thread)
A netra xponder is $30 to BUY. Never needs charging or anything. Zip tie it to your chest protector and game on.
See where I'm going with this? Cheap competition.
Or there's 3-4 other non mx series happening in the region.
Other series' transponders are 5-10$. One time investment.

Close your eyes, look deep in your soul, step outside yourself and let your mind go.
I know it's cheap, I'm just not too hot on the idea of racing a dirtbike in any way. If I did dirt, I'd just do cheap woods for fun to scratch the itch.
I'm looking into a couple SVs.

Start out with a brand new bike, and with the way you take care of things, you'll have a lot less to worry about. To many people get a sour taste in their mouths about motards and reliability, because they bought some 4 or 5 year old used and abused mx bike (sorry MX riders, but there are only a few exceptions of people actually taking legit care of their bikes), slapped on some wheels, only to have it blow up a short time later.
That being said though, if I were you, I'd go buy a new left over R6, start from scratch and not worry about anything but changing the oil and adding fuel..after it's set up for you of course.![]()
Yamaha
While you know I share your sentiment for new things and doing things right, it's not really in the bank account right now to do it that way. I did that with the R6 and it was fun and I got my money's worth out of it because I kept it for a long time.
If I can get a decent SV to race that seems like a decent way to go for short money and reliable bike.
If not and I don't race this year maybe over the winter I could do as you suggest with an R6 if some things change for me.

My r6 is still for sale for some pretty cheap money.....but at this point I think I'd prefer not to sell it until after the 2nd august round.

But if you're interested for next season.....

Nah if I come back on an r6 it will def be newer and possibly built up by me.
I got a couple SVs in the works to look at.
