    OK, Motard guys... Brakes!

Alright... who's running what for brakes?
What do you like about what you're running?
    What do you dislike?

My KTM has a 320mm rotor, HH pads, SS lines and stock Brembo caliper/master. Looking to upgrade during the off season.

Anyone running some sportbike stuff? I know Jeff (HD) has a Brembo MC off of a 996 that seems to work well.
I'd be interested in hearing about some lower-cost alternatives if they exist, but it seems all the sportbike masters have really big pistons. NOt sure how well that would work with a single-caliper setup.

And before anyone posts it, yes, I've seen the $149 Braking caliper on Motostrano's clearance site. I dig the price tag, but was looking to do some research first.

So what are you guys running?

    Re: OK, Motard guys... Brakes!

Glad you posted this. I was going to ask you about your rotor/caliper as I think we have the same one. Do you have to take the rotor off to get the caliper off? Brian and I couldn't get the cal. off due to clearance. Makes changing front wheels/ pads a pain in the ass.

Interested to see what people like for calipers up front. Brian mentioned a brembo for $200? *Paging brian jeff*

And yes that 996 master is the cats anus : Now I need a caliper that comes off easily.

Yeah the stock Brembo just barely fits past the rim when taking the wheel off, so no need to remove the rotor bolts. I can see how that would REALLY drive you nuts. EDIT, yours is def. different, though... You've got that annodized hard parts joint, I believe.

    Re: OK, Motard guys... Brakes!

    I LOVE my brakes.

I'm running the Brembo Cast 4 pad, this link, second down:
    QTMI/BREMBO/MARCHESINI/SPARCO

and the 16x18 radial on this page:
    QTMI/BREMBO/MARCHESINI/SPARCO

Using the stock SMR rotor. 310 mm wave rotor from Braking, made for KTM.

When I ordered the caliper, I told them what I was running it on and they shaved the back so it clears the spokes and sent me the proper spacers.

Those are going to be a bit different from you guys b/c my caliper is radial mount from the factory. I know there are brackets you can convert to a radial caliper though

I know the cap on the axle is 27 mm...but I'd have to look up the specific dimensions of the actually axle

I've got the same caliper as Puppet with the Hard Parts radial master. The caliper is worth it's weight in gold -- awesome stopping power, no fade. The master, in my opinion, is overpriced. The KTM unit is really nice and works great, but it's a LOT of money. I'd go with the Brembo radial like Puppet if I had to do it again.

I have full Motomaster rotor, caliper, SS line, and Magura master. It's the bomb. As you may recall I own Jeff Wood's old RMZ so that's what he spec'ed it with

Really doesn't get much more powerful than this. I can do 1-finger endo's into T3 all day long.

I've got the complete MotoMaster race kit on mine.
12mm radial master, stainless line, 320mm rotor, caliper and relocator bracket..oh yeah, and the brake pads.

I've only ridden the bike at one trackday and the brake feel was awesome IMO. I had almost the same set up on my 04 YZ450 less the radial master, I used the stock master for the bike...and had almost no feel. It stopped awesome but it was like a light switch

I think racetech makes fork bottoms that also have adjustable offset inserts along with the radial mount setup.

I run a beringer 6 piston setup including master, it could stop a truck on a dime with a pinky pull.

So, after a little digging it looks like the KTM fork foot with the radial mount (like Brian's 560smr) will fit on the 02 520SX (SX only though, the EXC/MXC had 43mm tubes). The axle diameters are different (20 vs 26mm) but that may be a relatively easy fix with an adapter. That'll open up some bracketless brake options fo sho.

There's also some aftermarket stuff that Racetech is importing (thanks for that link, Jay), but they didn't really have all the details on price/availability yet. I may give them another ring before I order the SMR part.

Hey mike, talk to your dealer...check part number SXS03540400. I think it's the part number for a 20 to 26 mm adapter. I know it's out there (we used to carry one) and you should be able to get it from a KTM dealer for short $$

    Thanks Bud.
That does seem like the right part number.

If I brought one home my lathe wouldn't speak to me for a week.
