I'm playing devils advocate here in case anyone couldn't guess that.
The correct answer is to just do your best and you should get through tech. Spending time reading the rule book and trying to do exactly as it says is pointless.
I don't know where you guys are getting the 4" thing from. I just checked last years rule book and it says 6"
if you guys are worried about it not fitting the front of bikes with center mounted ait intakes then do the numbers above the air intake. you'll have to use some of the windscreen but plenty of people do it and it actually looks pretty good there.
I think the big problem was last year when people borrowed bikes they just changed the front number and left the back with the bike's owner's number. so they had 2 different numbers on the bike and it made it difficult for timing & scoring.

Thank you for saying that. Apparently I couldn't guess.
I try my best but if I'm a hair under the 1/2 and everything else is good I'm not going to worry about it. I just taped up my bike for paint and laid the numbers down first and made my plates accordingly. My tail is bigger then an R6 so it's not really an issue for me.
I also don't recall 4" number ever being allowed. I remember 8 and 6 then 6 all round. Brett says he just looked and I'm good with trusting that. I think some confusion may come from LRRS and CCS being different. I know it caught me at least once.

For the love of GOD!!! Tree Fitty put it best, this retarded debate has been going on for almost 20 years! It's not so much a Timing and scoring issue anymore as much as a safety issue. Put the biggest damn numbers you can fit on the tail with the proper font. Take advantage of the rule Johnny B got passed concerning side #'s on the fairings. Be creative when it comes to the front fairing with cut outs. There's nothing saying that you can't have splits in the number plate. Cut the number plate and lay it in the intake, stand back 30'. If you can read the number, guess what!? Your a number plate layin' genius!!
FYI - Because our track is so tight and technical, the corner marshal's can rarely read a tail number on modern bikes. Pretty much count on the front and side.
Wanna know who was one of the first to take advantage of the side number rule? ..... Scotty James. He runs the same type bikes as you cupcakes. Scotty just puts on the biggest numbers possible, puts on really good numbers on the side fairings and guess what? Not a single corner has called him in for piss poor numbers.
Oh, and I believe his number is #932 ?? Think that uses all the font # spacing......
Just sayin',

Kitt has it.
And 4" numbers were allowed on the tail for 2 years. I know because I made them an sold them and then had to show the guys in tech the LRRS rule book where it showed they were allowed.
I think the first year I got them to put in the wording to allow numbers on the fairing, they inserted the entire paragraph I lifted (With Mongo's blessing) from the WERA rulebook.
WERA had 4" numbers in their rulebook. This was subsequently corrected in ours.

I'm not going to belabor this point. This is one of these bitch 'till you drop issues. Tree Fiddy even weighed in. Get your shit tight. this isn't a track day, this is racing. You folks are part of the oldest road race in the United States, and the primary race series feeding it.
START ACTING LIKE IT!!
Get your bikes, pits, garages looking like a real effort. If we want to grow the series and the sport, we need to present an image of professionalism.
Folks want to see flash and a touch of awesome.
I know you can do it. You don't need a half million dollar race hauler to represent. Just a squared away pit with the best equipment and people you can manage. Heck, a car with a trailer looks great if the people on the team look like there ready to race!!
positive people, positive pits, positive paddock = Happy visitors??
So,,, how does that idiot number issue sound now, Cupcake?

Damn I'm not even a stakeholder in this discussion but it does appear as though the noise has been brought, it has been made to rain and the hammer has been dropped all in one post. Like a boss. Yowza

...Actually, I'm probably the best looking person in the entire paddock...

seems pretty simple to me. i was told that as long as they are legible at speed then size wont matter (giggity). if the tail isnt big enough for a set of numbers on each side then put one on the top and then put 2 number plates on either side of the main fairing like the WSBK and BSB guys do
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...
