Easy enough question, if you could pick from any r6 '06 and up - what year do you think is best to go racing with and why?
Thanks -

08 is the desired year IMO. You get the updated frame, forks, and variable intake. Hasn't exactly been any changes since, so can pick one up a bit cheaper than one that's newer. I have an 06 FWIW.
From the archives...when I was cool and raced motorcycles.
Good info in here, probably been some updates since.

After re-reading my initial post...of course I end up throwing a shitload of money at a Daytona 675.

I think the fastest an R6 has ever gone at Loudon was when Jeff Wood did a 1:09.9 in practice on his 06/07 a handful of years back.
The 08 has all the changes smutty noted in that thread, and as such, is superior. The mid range grunt is a welcome change but overall once the 06 is sorted with gearing and shift points, I believe it's just as quick (?).
06/07 still a plenty good bike though, if you can keep revs up and get the front end sorted out (some guys even dropped the forks slightly below flush in the triples to get it working).
So I'd target at 08 if I was in the market, unless there was a smoking deal on an 06/07.

There's a localish 08 R6 for sale on the WERA classified forum.
Personally, I would go for a 05 - I always liked the looks of that gen. But I don't race.
