Hi guys
I've been thinking about starting racing my cbr 1000
looked thru the rules book and the only class i found i can race the 1000 as novice is GTO, is any other classes/races that i can enter or just that one?
thanx
No. That is the only class you can enter. Don't take it personally but Novices and big bikes don't mix so well at Loudon.
You could buy my f4i so i'm not tempted to race it....
I would not recommended starting your racing career on a cbr1000 at Loudon. You can buy a cheap race bike for what your first low side on that thing will cost (Hawk!) and that is a lot of bike for that track.
Not based on my experience but more on what i have heard so take it for what its worth.

Considering you can get a racebike for $1000 on this forum and race it for cheaper than 1 race a weekend on that 1000, I see it differently.

There was an ex for sale recently for $1000, but i don't know if it sold.
I might rent out my f4i (race ready, ohlins shock the works) to pay my race fees. It would be a better option than the cbr1000 and cheaper than renting a penguin bike. I think Gino was thinking of renting out a spare hawk also.
True
And conversely... if you think can afford to race a 1000, you can afford to buy another bike that's cheaper to run.
I don't race a 600 for the sole reason that I can't afford to be buying upwards of 8 sets of tires a year. My SV only cost me a few grand and I'm only went through 3 rears & 2 fronts last year at a reasonably competitive Expert level.
And back when i raced my EX500 I sold it in '08 with the same tires that were on it when I purchased it in '06.![]()

"***THIS BIKE DOES NOT CURRENTLY RUN***
Selling my NT650 Hawk. This Bike has been extensively modified. Faulty Cometic head gasket blew and it has been sitting ever since, due to life getting in the way. The following is a pretty complete list of mods and parts. Looking to get 1500.00 or best reasonable offer. Would be a great project bike for street or track, or it could probably be parted out for a return well over asking price.
Parts List (Built)
JE Pistons (12.5:1 compression ratio 2 sizes over) 702?
Carillo Rods
1mm over Intake valves (2Bros)
Titanium Valve retainers (2Bros)
Adjustable Ignition Advancer(2Bros)
Factory Jet Kit (jetted for 5k ft)
M4 High Rise Full Exhaust system with polished bracket (this exhaust system is nearly pristine and tuned almost perfectly from the factory)
Vortex triple clamp
Vortex Clipons
Progressive Fork Springs
Chafong preload adjuster caps
Chafong Rearsets
VFR 5.5" Rear Wheel and Hub Conversion (this is only supposed to take a 170 tire and won't rub with that config)
F2 Front Wheel
AirTech RC31 Bodywork and mounting
Michelin Race Slicks (barely worked in -only about 6 hours of track time)
Galfer SS front brake line (Clipon length)
The sub frame was modded for the rear tail
Parts not on Bike
Dual headlight setup for RC30/31 Bodywork
Rear Pit Stand
Stock Wheels
Spare Stock cams (never sent them to get done)
CBR 900 Rear shock (never mounted)
Stock Airbox
Galfer SS rear brake line
This bike could be completely street worthy with some work, It actually only has about 15 hours on the motor build and only ran JP race gas (wouldn't be require at a lower elevation than 5k) and Honda oil with 2 oil changes. In addition to the head gasket being blown, there is a pinhole leak in the split case that leaks a bit of oil. A good mechanic could probably fix both for around 4 bills I would think. All of the machine work was done by a respectable machinist and I did the rest of the build (I worked in a bike shop for years...I guess I just didn't get a perfect seal on the split case)
Unfortunately it has been sitting for a while, so it will definitely need a good going over in addition to the repairs. "

There are enough Hawk people on this forum and at LRRS to get probably any hawk to a race ready state with the parts and experience.
I think Doc has one almost ready... was trying to pawn it off on me yesterday![]()
I actually spoke to him at length about the bike.It is a rather odd build but for the sum of the parts I think $1500 is worth it. Even if the motor is stock and not a 700. You could sell all the street parts and be into that bike for maybe $1000. I'd buy it if I hadn't just bought a 450x.
When I get "B" Hawk track ready it will come with spares (front and rear rim) and I'll want to get $1500 (but mine will be running)
If you buy it, Matt Stone could replace the head gasket at a good price.
Nothing wrong with that EX500 though!
