RC for the track?

Hi all, here is the question...

I am considering buying the RC51 belonging to MYCIRUS, but I want the input of a few people on here regarding my plans to buy an RC and take it to the track (it will also be used on the street).

The plan was to buy an 08 CBR600 and track it. I was told a light 600 was the way to go. But now this RC is available and I have a love affair with that bike.

I am a novice (TTD yellow group... barely) track rider. My current street bike is a '07 VFR800. I really like the idea of riding a twin.

Please offer objective wisdom, also, I am 6'3". I dont fit on little 600's very well, are there any tall RC riders out there who can comment on the fit?

I would say The RC is a better bet then a 600 the twin will make you smile. and you will have enough cash left over for a full year of trackdays.
The RC is an amazing streetbike as well.

Ive had both my RC and my R6 on the track. I made the mistake of having them both one day and riding them back to back. The RC is a great street bike. If I dont get mine sold it wont see another track day. Once you get comfortable out there the bike amazingly enough just doesnt have the nut to get you around the track at a faster pace. If youre going to be doing more trackdays then street riding Id go with the 600. I can hustle the 600 around the track much much faster then the RC.

the RC is dated for sure and I would bet the r6 would beat it on the track. I guess it depends on the track too. Also, RC good for the street? Not only will that 08 rr be more comfortable but it has a better behavior on the street as well. The RC is badass though.

Two days ago he does not know how to remove his wheels now he is a track expert(JK).

Track days are Not about going fast and beating anything. They are about enjoying your bike. The guy might be a little big for an R6. And a 600 Can get real mean real fast on the track for sure.

Have you ridden a "new" r6 On the Street? They are Great race bikes no so much for streetbikes. They have almost no power under 10k you have to rev the piss out of them to get anywhere but once you do the are fast as stink. They are a little to sharp to be a great streetbike.

I have never ridden a new R6 on the street and I have no desire to. Its why I asked what kind of riding he would see himself doing most. The RC is awesome on the street. I know mine will never see the track again. Its just that poor of a performer compared to new stuff. I also know my R6 will never see the street. Even if I wanted to try to put it to street duty after having it on the track there is no way I could ride it on the street.

So if the plan is to see more track then street get a 600 but if its mainly street the RC will be a good choice.

I'm 6' 210lbs and fit on a 125, you will fit on a 600. The RC is heavy and slow.

I've ridden them both a lot and Raced 600RR's.
RC 51 is a good street bike, a lot of fun of the street.....but not a track performer.
However, that being said a lot of bikes that show up to a trackday aren't exactly "track performers" in the eyes of anyone racing. I'm sure you would have fun on the RC in a trackday, but the 600RR will definately be a better track bike.

Might want to consider the other costs associated with the purchase.
1. How much would you need to put into each bike to get it set up where you want it? (Less needed for the 600)
2. What about depreciation and re-sale? Probably lose less money buying and selling off a newer 600RR.

Wow harsh...haha. I know how to take the wheels off...it was a matter of doing it correctly . Anyway, I think we can all agree that the RR is going to be a better all around machine. I think the RC has a cult halo around it. Its not that it isn't a good bike its just well...you put the two side by side and its kind of a no brainer.

an rc51 is fine for the track. it's a little heavy, but you aren't looking to race it, yet. I raced against a guy on one last year and he was turning out 1:20's and 19's as a novice, and he was happy with the bike.

on the track the rc is going to be more work to ride fast, compared to a new 600.

on the street it will run a lot hotter, maybe be a little more comfortable, and will be a lot more unique.

hmmm. thanks a lot all for your input. I have always been in "awe" of the mighty RC. However, given my situation (I have a '07 VFR800 that gives me the torquey fun street ride and am looking for something more for the track), it sounds like the basic opinion is that a 600 is a better choice.

I will have to think about it, thanks again all for the input, the RC sounds awesome going around the track in that vid Union!

Loudon is a pretty shitty track for a bike like the RC51, for that reason alone I'd recommend the R6.

get an SV 650 it tows Jersey around pretty quick, and heck Ricky D too and he aint small. Cheap, fun, very well handling for Loudon.. my .01 (since i dont have a ton of experience I only get half a say) lol

I am a huge fan of the RC, but at 6'6" the bike is cramped. They are a lot of fun to ride. If had more room I would own one.

How about instead of just asking which one is better, tell us what YOU WANT in a bike and where you'll be riding it the most?

Both have potential to be enjoyable on the street or the track, but they each deliver that enjoyment in very different ways from one another.....

The RC would probably be the better one of the two at pulling BOTH track and street duty where the R6 is obviously way more track oriented.

Moral of the story: decide which bike is the right tool for the job that YOU want to do. I think there's enough info in this thread at this point for you to be able to figure it out on your own.
