    Thursday/Friday camping/practice and fees

I don't want to start a shitshow but just want to make people aware of some new rules/policies at the track.

    1. If you rent a garage for the season, your camping fee has always been waived for every race round. This year, if you go up thursday night, they will charge you to camp there because "friday is not an lrrs event". I have always parked my trailer outside my garage in the spaces that are included with my garage fee, and slept in it for thursday, friday, and saturday night. Apparently now your garage only covers you for friday and saturday night. Also, they will charge you the powered price ($25 as opposed to $15) to plug your trailer into your garage that you pay for already.

    2. The Friday afternoon half day $100 practice session is no longer available. You can practice all day friday for $150. This was a surprise to me as I often would drive up in the morning and practice in the afternoon. This time I was working on my bike in the morning and went over to sign up for the afternoon practice for $100 and they told me I couldn't. I wasn't going to pay $150 to go on track for four 15 minute sessions so I had to skip it as money is tight.

Just thought I'd let you guys know about this stuff so no one else gets surprised.

Thanks for the heads up. I usually do the same thing for practice.

I believe you aren't allowed to sleep in the garages.

One thing to add is that you can get $15 off the price of a practice if you register early enough.

    Here ya go Mike. http://www.penguinracing.com/pages/2...e_schedule.cfm

I was going to stop over and say hi, but the weekend went by so fast, I lost track of time. We were pitting next to you for the first 3 rounds last season in garage 16, until I moved over to the center garages. Saw you out there during practice with yellow plates. Congrats on the bump.

I don't think you can, but basically they said if you're sleeping here you have to pay, regardless of where/how you do it.

I had to clarify as I was extremely surprised. They said are you camping, I said no I'm parking my trailer outside my garage like I've done for the past several years, they said you have to pay and you have to pay $25 since you're plugging it in.

So compared to prior years with my garage already paid for I could come up thursday night, stay for free, practice half day friday for 100 bucks, and then do my normal race weekend. This year they've added $25 to sleep thursday night in my trailer and the no-half-day option adds another $50 so that's $75 extra.

So as a result I probably just won't come up thursday nights and won't practice fridays anymore which will save me almost 1000 bucks. I'm on a budget anyways this year.

I know they're a business and need to make money but it's getting a little ridiculous, the more they nickel and dime the racers, the less actual RACING folks will be able to afford while they are there, so grids will continue to shrink/be small. This leads to a negative effect on everyone, not just the guys that are on a tight budget...

Did they put coin ops on the shitter doors yet? Pay showers? I paid $3 for 12ozs of water. That was real reasonable.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

No, but they got rid of the pee trough, so no more gathering 'round the watering hole.

honestly thats in every event/arena/track in the world. go to fenway and pay 5$ for a bottle of water or comcast center and pay $12 for a beer.
This is not something new. however charging for garaging and "camping" in front of it is kinda shady and double-dipping..

For Friday and Saturday nights. Like Chris mentioned above, they charge for Thursday night, since Penguin school/race practice is now considered not to be the same event as the LRRS weekend.

Supposedly, garages are free reign during Penguin.

Yes but you aren't paying for garage rental for "off" days. So how the heck is that double dipping?

When the spectator numbers are 15-20 max, and that's being generous, I'd hardly consider that an event.

Duc Dave has more riders at last event than that....and that's just one group of spectators.

    Re: Thursday/Friday camping/practice and fees

Trackday providers like Tony's and BoMo pay an additional fee for overnight security, which allows you to camp for free overnight at their events.

Friday and Saturday night are NHMS run events, so NHMS "pays" that fee to allow for overnight camping.

Your money is your vote. What can you do? Consider using the money that is being soaked from you (and everyone in the paddock) and place it elsewhere.

A grand is a pretty nice generator.

It's amazing to watch all this from the outside looking in. For what people are so eagerly willing to spend just to race LRRS I don't think most people realize it would easily put them at quite a few other venues for the same dollar amount and with fewer hassles and surprises with the only difference being it happens in a group.

The CT folks are a perfect example. Each of you spend, what, 200+ round trip just for the truck and trailer? Taking that dollar amount and splitting it with one other person will get you to NJMP, Summit, BeaveRun and almost all the way to VIR.....and that's just splitting with one person. Imagine how much that number is reduced when there are 4 people splitting costs.

That's all I have to say here since none of this affects me. Carry on.

I don't consider it soaked with all the great improvements being made to the track as well as the abundance of air fence that is being purchased. Plus you are not factoring in extra travel time needed to be taken via vacation days to get to these tracks.

    Re: Thursday/Friday camping/practice and fees

Considering the next closest track to me is NJMP, and it's 8 hours one way, if I want to run a series it's going to be NHMS/LRRS. Yeah, I want to do other tracks/orgs, but it'll always be one offs at best. At the moment I don't feel like LRRS/NHMS is trying to soak me, the pit/garage situation sounds loads better than other places I've read about.
