I just picked up an 03 cbr600rr, (thanks mcbiggity.) rule 7.17 states, "All in line four cylinder motorcycles that have crankshaft covers that contain oil must use approved case covers or case guards." Do frame sliders constitute case guards, or do I have to do more.
If I do, what are the options out there. I have found the Woodcraft products, full left replacement cover and right starter guard. These look sweet and I want them, but do I need them to pass tech?
Any help, thanks,
Stuart

You could possibly get away without them and claim ignorance (I didn't have them when I started), they'll probably just tell you to make sure you get them asap. You're DEFINITELY going to need/want them eventually. They're the first things to break/crack and cause a big mess if you ever go down (the stock ones will, the woodcraft ones are bulletproof).
So basically, they're worth the $$ just to avoid being "that guy" that causes a mess that shuts down the track for an hour.
Well said Ryan. I don't want to be "that guy." I almost always am.

Definitely get the covers. You'll be glad you did.
Come check them out at our shop and get a NESR discount along with a $25 Track Day coupon for a minimum purchase of $250
Def get the woodcrafts and then sell the stockers on one of the forums (people/squids always need them), especially if they are mint. I sold mine on r6-forum or one of those such sites.
Like Ryan said, Even if you pass tech (which technically you shouldn't) without them, a pretty simple lowside can easily wear through one of those stock covers.... so now you've got metal and debris inside your stator or clutch... and on top of that you've covered the track with oil and everyone hates you. Not worth it!

So, what I'm hearing is that the frame sliders don't really keep you off the cases. Right?

Pot metal factory case covers are cheap and brittle. They tend to crack when hitting pavement.
Woodcraft covers are machined from 6061 Billet Aluminum. A much stronger way to do it.
Big thanks to Duncanmoto. I went to their shop last week and picked up the case guards. Great price and great service. I also got to meet Ted an Komaki; great people.
Thanks guys, see you at the track.
