The beginner course doesn't teach you how to ride on a track, it teaches you what you are required to know about the rules of racing. Track riding, technique, and motorcycle physics is minimal in that program.

I was going to say exactly this. Even though I had never rode track before I took the beginner class...the beginner class was still slow. You would learn much more at a track day with some instruction. Some personal instruction wouldn't be a bad idea either...really helps develop your skill.
