your insurance companys will cover it if they don't know it happens at the track.
1. crash at track
2. load bike into truck
3. call insurance company and say you dumped your bike and had a friend take it to your house in a truck becasue there were injuries and no other cars involed.
4. you pretty much know the rest of the work dealing with the insurance company since you done that before a couple times.
i don't think any insuance company with cover it for a track day unless you can spin it to them that it is an instructional course taken at a track for saftely reasons maybe??

There are a few here that may or may not chime in that have been covered by insurance company. I think they just got a letter from the track sponser stating it was not a timed event and that it was instructional riding.
good to know, this topic has been toss around here a couple time. never actually had someone comfirm an insurance company has covered them which is why I said maybe?

I'm not sure what an actual on-track insurance policy might cost, but you could pick up an ex500 for as little as about $500 that you could crash a gazillion times and only ever need clipons or levers for.
Just food for thought.
Also, somebody may chime in about renting a bike for a td. So you don't have to cover your new gixxah in duct tape, or even worry in the slightest about getting it there, or marring it up at all.

Close your eyes, look deep in your soul, step outside yourself and let your mind go.
Chip, leave him alone. Let him bring the gixxah to the track....hehe

How much is renting you priced out?Originally Posted by jcrawford

And there is zero reason to crash at a trackday if you are riding well within your ability.

That's pretty high.
Boston Moto can rent you a gsxr600 for $800 per day with $500 of that back when it is returned without being crashed. If you crash it, your liability is limited to the $500 crash deposit.
I love how every time this question is asked, one of the first responses is to commit insurance fraud![]()

Friend who works at a bike shop has a g/f who insures me and she said no coverage if dropped on track, timed or not timed. Also covered her ears but first said insurance fraud is no small thing.

Yeah, insurance companies in Mass are mandated to have special investigation units and they do look into stuff like this if there is any suspicion.
If you make up a place where the crash allegedly happened and they don't find any gouges/scrapes, disturbed dirt, etc., you may have some explaining to do...and you can be charged criminaly for insurance fraud if the Insurance Fraud Bureau wants to pursue it.
Like Scuba said, not the right approach.
I will chime in on this one. This was my personal experiance at Loudon. I did a track day in 09. Actually it was a Ducati Rev's New England day. I decided to take the Duc out for this event as I just successfully completed a Penguin day on my R6. Well needless to say I wasnt as succesful with the Duc. Half way through the day I ate it in the bowl. The Duc was done and out, PROBLEM for me!!
After speaking with several riders and mechanics/shops at the event they all told me to do what most people recommend. "Dont say you did it at the track".. make up a story.
Well after 2days of deliberation I decided to call my insurance company. After explaining that I crashed at the track (moral thing to do, I am honest like that) during a sanctioned event following an instructor, not a timed event, I was anxious to here the next outcome.
I was amazed that they were fantastic. They ended up covering the damages to the bike 100% + 1000 for safety gear as stated in my policy. I couldnt of been happier. Long story short, they considered bike totaled due to repair costs to get it back to street condition. They paid off the note 12k on the bike which is what i owed.
The Kicker, I was able to buy the bike back for 4k - 1k for the suit that was damaged,( but I got to keep the suit which had only minor rash on the forarm zipper). I put 2k back into the bike and had it set up for the track. SWEET DEAL.. I run a 749R 06... LOVE IT. Progressive was awsome. I got lucky. but I was honest about what happened and it payed off..
my .o2 cents anyway..
