F4i Clutch

Sunday did an oil change with my buddy Mark. Mobil 1 15w50. took a test spin and everythings great, runs like a champ.
Monday i washed her up good, but started raining so i didn't do go for a ride, brought her back in the garage...
tonight (tuesday) i decided to go for a ride and as a soon as i pulled out of the driveway i could feel something was wrong...the clutch lever was not fully disengaging..Any ideas? i loosened the bolt holding the lever into the housing and all that did was give me a loose lever...so i am thinking my line needs to be cleaned and lubed?? yes/no???

Here is how the lever looks when released. this is as far as it goes..i can push it back with my hand, but it should completely release when i let go of the lever...

You want a small gap there. It gives just enough play to let the clutch engage without being held back. If you feel the clutch slipping at all then you may need a new one.
You should keep that cable well lubed as well, it can corrode where you dont see it.

A good rule of thumb for the gap at the clutch lever is about the width of a dime. If it slips at all with slack in the cable the clutch needs to be replaced or at least taken apart and examined. If it sticks even with no slack in the cable (for testing only) then either the plates are stuck together (which will usually come apart with a little riding, this is more common with bikes that have been in storage for a while), or the basket fingers have dings in them (usually from hard riding, used to be fairly common in MX bikes). Did you use a pressure washer? if you did you might have washed away all the grease from the lever end and any cable lube from that end of the cable. The water has had time to get down in there and mix with the lube, making the lever feel stiff.

Thanks Derek..i did not use a pressure washer but i did dry it off with a leaf blower...i bet that messed with the grease and lube. How involved is it to regrease the lever and lube the cable?

that's a well done page. I am a visual learner so I think that it helps to have those pics along with it - then I can see what I shoudl be doing as opposed to guessing.
