Yeah suspension tuning is definitely something to be mastered. I want to finally set up my suspension on this bike once I get her up and running and everything working properly. But thats a whole nuther ball of wax that I'm not going to worry about right now

Yes I'll be following the service manual, but thought I ask people have done this before.
Todd she's running pretty smooth for now, I need to get her on the road to be able to say for sure. My next step is to work on all the fluids (fork oil, oil anti freeze etc.) next, then wait for the warm weather to take it for a spin.
I saw your post and I'm glad to hear you'er making progress, keep us postage after you install your nice and clean carb. On a side note: you really have to get your bike up and running (and I know you can) so we can do some riding when the warm weather is here...lol..
stoinkythepig how are you making out with your over heating issue? yeh my guess would be head gasket leak, sounds like it from what you describe.
It was the gasket and it's all fine now. Thanks for asking. I put a $150 ebay head on last weekend. Some of my valves had no more room for adjustment (they were on the smallest shims) at nearly 90,000 miles and the used head was much cheaper and easier than replacing the valves.
None of my valve spring compressors worked on the head, so I made one entirely out of stuff (2x4 scraps, 3/4" copper pipe, 1/2" iron pipe and 1/2" threaded rod) I found in my shop. I used it to replace the valve seals (cheap insurance) on the new head. It's available, if anyone needs to borrow it.
Sweet!! nice rig up.
